Monday Making
I knew my string tote was full and really not looking forward to making string blocks, but I had more to add from the recent 'gifted bags' sorting - there is no more room!
I have several old Yellow Pages phonebooks that are perfect papers for foundation. I could just sew strips together, but I like to have them on the paper to hold them while I am ready to use them. Plus, it keeps them straight as sometimes when you do long strattas they tend to 'lean'.
I'll be using these in the new Blog Hop "Wish Upon a Star' - what will I make?
We have our new snow bomb starting sometime today, thru tomorrow and right into Wednesday. OYI!!!
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

Cant wait to see your string project
I am working on my strings and crumbs. Looking forward to seeing your top.
Thanks for explaining the use of paper in string blocks. I know people do that, but I’ve never known why. When I sew strips together, I turn them and sew them in opposite directions, but I don’t do it often, and so I’m not sure which method is better. I’m committed to doing more with scraps when we get home, and so I’m paying more attention to you scrap heavy-hitters.
I never thought about phone book pages. As a kid, my mom and I used newspaper because that's all we had. We did a lot of string quilt tops to sell.

I always love to see what people are doing with strings. So many possibilities, and such a lot of fun!
I'm so over all this snowdump/meltdown/snowdump/meltdown/snowdump stuff. Can we just have spring already?
I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do with your strings. I sewed a lot of the big pile I cut for the Covered in Love string fling, but still have a bin full that I need to use. We were predicted to be in the 1 -3 inch range, but we already have more than 5 inches. I guess forecasting is not an exact science.
I've been sewing with my AZ quilting group and we've been sewing these string blocks on muslin and old sheets. I think old phone books would be perfect as it wouldn't add the weight (after we take them off the paper). I will have to suggest it to them. Phone books are getting smaller all the time; they might become a thing of the past.
That's a great idea!
Hoping that this 3rd snow bomb is much less snow than the previous ones. Hurry up Spring!
