Opposites Attract Blog Hop

OPPOSITES

Welcome to my stop on the 'Opposites' Hop and thank you to Marian @ Seams to Be Sew for organizing.  This has been a while in the making and when it was first put out as a possible hop it was also when our Quilt Guild issued their Challenge.

Yes, a Paint Chip Challenge with two colors to encourage members to also participate in the Empire Quilt Fest show - theme "Two by Two".  Fate?  Since I knew I would use this challenge for the Opposites Hop, I entered another quilt in the show because I didn't want to share my Opposites project by mistake with show photo's.

Now I got two paint chip colors I don't have a lot of in my stash or use a lot.  Yellow gets added in bits for some pop and purple - luckily is my SILs favorite color.  So I dug into my scraps and her scraps to find 'May Tulip Yellow' and 'Violet Illusion'.  As I was planning my piece, the suggestions for the hop 'protocol' kept changing - I kept to my challenge piece.

I've always have wanted to make the 'Twirl' (or twist or wrap depending on who's pattern you see on the internet).

And if I twirl it, the yellow photo'ed better.  The purple is textured and the yellow has tiny dots.  The black and white are left over Kona strips from another project.

The backis the same as the binding and came out of the scrap bin.  All fabrics used up.  Well enough scrap to make one of my little dolls to go with this mini.

A mini project that made me use a combo of color I wouldn't normally do and two challenges met with one piece.

And some help, too.  Although not really - she grabbed the doll and ran off with it.

Be sure to visit these other lovely gals posting today:

And Raffle Copter still will not work with my firewall (no I am not taking it down) so please visit the others to enter for the Fat Quarter Shop give away.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

That is just fun! I love the idea of drawing paint chips, but, as Claire said, that could have gone so badly if they hadn't gone well together! Thanks for sharing today! desertskyquilting.wordpress.com

I love the purple and yellow together. My guild had a crayon challenge (I missed the meeting) that I'll be using for my challenge.

I've done the crayon/paintchip challenge before. Out of my comfort Zone. My Children's school colors. I have seen this pattern many times. I like your colors best. Go TEAM!

Naughty, naughty Bella!! Someday my flower gardens will be all purple and yellow - a combo I enjoy outside but, come to think of it, don't think I've done much with in the Quilt Lab. Great project! Congrats!

Your quilt is lovely. Like the twisty quilts I see.

I love the economy of this project: used up scraps, tried out a new pattern, fulfilled two challenges, and can be used as a cat toy apparently!

This is soooo cute! Love the twisty effect. Doll was cute as a button. Wonder why Bella wanted your doll.

Great pattern choice and colors. Nice to get two challenges accomplished in one beautiful stroke. Kitty likes to play with dolls, eh? That is a new one on me. My cats do not seem to look at them. Fun read. Thanks for sharing ... :) Pat

That's a really nice pattern and I think the colors look great. I was admiring your doll then read the part about Bella running off with her, I'm laughing way to hard at this.
