Progress With Those Baby Steps

All those bindings got done and my two swaps were mailed and received - so I can show them now. The third I will share for my Handmade Christmas post.

This month's theme for the Monthly Doll Quilt Swap Group was 'Keen on Green' and my partner and I agreed to follow the theme.  Lots of green scraps in a rail fence setting with a few scattered corners.  With this theme I thought of our lush clover fields and the little flowerettes sprinkled thru.  And the little white sulpher butterflies that love those fields.  Of course, the little dolly to go with the quilt, too.

This was for our little swap group - swap theme was a mini for Spring.  I like to do birdhouses and this style is the 'Empire' which I thought represented where I live - 'The Empire State'.  Yes, thinking of Spring reminds me of flowers, too (as well as getting all our bird houses cleaned and ready) - so thought this cute floral added to the look.  I sent some extras along with it.

Our Quilt Guild had a demonstration on the snap bag and kits were given out for us to practice with.  We were to make one with our "ugly FQs in a bag" to make another one.  Look!  I'm going to sew with a Batik!

The smaller snap bag was the kit and the ugly was with the larger instructions.  I boxed the corners on that one.  These directions were modified from the original (and much easier) by another guild's member and shared with us.  These are fun little bags and can be stuffed with goodies for a gift for a quilty friend.

These blocks were made and sent to Kevin the Quilter for the QOV block drive.  Such a quick project and for a very worthy cause.  If you haven't made yours yet, YES, they only take an hour of your time for 5 blocks.  Actually, I think it took 1/2 an hour.

And I am slowly working on those tiny Hexie Flowers for my Let's Book It project.  I actually have 8 of the 12 flowers done and think I need to start browsing my stash for the background, sashing, and cornerstones.

Yes, I even have been ticking off things on that other 'to-do' list.  You know, the one that gets lost, hidden, stuff dumped on it.  Laundry, dust, mop, vac, put the Christmas stuff away (yes mine is still out), etc..........  We are in another wintry mix of weather, so maybe more of this list will get done.

Hope you are getting some sewing done - there is progress in baby steps.

Tuesday Archives

Val's Quilting Studio

This is my first time participating in Val's Quilting Studio Tuesday Archives.  Simply share an old post that goes with the week's theme.  She is using the alphabet to pick a theme and this week is 'Apples' or 'Applique'.

I found an old post HERE with a row quilt with a row of apples in it.

This quilt became something special as it went on to be quilted by Sue Daurio.  If you are not familiar with Sue's work - oh you must go see and drool.

Sue and I colaborated to make this quilt a special gift for a special person.  Sarah Craig at Confessions of a Fabric Addict works with her quilt ministry in making and donating so many quilts to those that need to be wrapped in a warm hug.  They rely on donations and I just love sending them blocks and flimsies.  But Sarah herself came upon a time when she needed to be wrapped in warm hugs.  So this quilt went to her - one special lady.  You can click HERE to see more of this quilt up close.

See if you can find an old 'apple' or 'applique' post and share over at Val's.

Sharon

Hands2Help Challenge

It's that time again.  If you are not familiar with Hands2Help, please visit Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Next Sunday, March 16th, there will more information on the three charities for donation as well as sign ups.  Please consider this as a wonderful experience in charity quilt gifting.  Sign up and put up the button and spread the word. Oh, yes, there are things to be won for participating, too.

On my design wall is the Goodnight Irene flimsie.  This is one of the quilts I plan to donate for Hands2Help.

After auditioning fabrics for borders, I thought I really out to keep to the scrappy, colorful design and went back into my barrel of pre-cut 2.5" squares and made borders.  Now to get those on and sandwich this up for some quilting.

Rainbow Challenge, Wins, and Winner

This month was Aqua/Teal for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Now I know I had to really dig last year and this year I thought I had more - NO.  So my aqua and teal fabrics range from a green to blue and inbetween.

I had some more true aqua left over from the Birds & Berries used in last years sampler BOM - yes, I am desperate to use up that greenie one.

Yep, even dug into my scrap binding drawer for a few more.

And really scraped when it came to the string block.  What tiny bit was left was cut into my pre-cut barrels.

I will be linking up with SoScrappy

I am on a fabric diet, but I was lucky to win a lovely jelly roll of La Belle Fleur from Kris at Lavendar Quilts for her blogaversary.  And the jelly roll and charm pack of Bloomin' Fresh was from Deb Strain won during Moda's Alphabet Hop.

I would like to thank all the ladies who entered February's "Let's Book It" challenge.  You can go back and see all the lovely projects linked up HERE.  Maybe someone used a book you have on your shelf.

Our winner is #5 - Val Spiers

I will be sending off an e-mail to her for mailing info.

Everyone have a pleasant weekend - Spring has to be around the corner as I think Moe has lost 10# chasing all the big fat Robins in the yard.
