The House on the Hill is Still Here

We are still here! Yes, I live where the flooding in New York State just devistated our entire valley and totally wiped out whole towns. Ours is barracked - so have not been into town. The National Guard has been into all areas - although my brother and I showed them on their map where some small hamlets and lived in areas are that they didn't have notated - hope they got into them.

The photo was taken from my front porch and we ran as just to left we saw the wall of water coming. We are 35 feet up from the valley floor and it is a little over a half mile to the base of that mountain where the Schoharie Creek runs - our village is just to the right. The water was to our front porch, so we knew the entire valley was under water.

Yes, I did a lot of hand work - when I missed machine, I hand cranked. But time has been spent cleaning up. For us it is clearing the debry in our yard and front field. We have a large water storage (water buffalo) tank, generator, food, clothing ------ oh, so much more than those who just have lost everything.

Here is where you can help:
Flood Assistance

QuiltBug newsletter that shows photos and gives where you can donate.

It will take time for me to catch up on things - home and community first.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

I was worried about you, your town and your state. Hurricane coverage kept showing excessive rain and no place for all the water to go. I'm glad that you are okay and sorry to hear about the devastation in your area.

We're so glad you're okay and didn't lose as much as you might have had you been at a lower altitude. Our prayers are with you and all your neighbors.

I know your area and I am so sorry about the flooding, water can be so damaging. Here in Omaha, we have had flooding since June 1st, people are finally able to go back to their home but the foundation is no longer stable so they will have to be rebuilt.

Oh Sharon..I wondered how you did during the mess they called Irene.
I've been watching the areas hit so I'm glad to hear you survived OK. Makes my little upset in NY just seem so insignificent!
Take care my friend!
