The furkids and I am so glad the cold spell is over! We had a bit of snow overnight and then changed to rain as it warmed - of course that meant morning ice before it all turned to mud. Yes, very heavy rains that called for some flooding watches. But the up side was I managed to seperate some colors from that pile dumped out of the 1.5" barrel. Catching up on blues - timing with the cold. I have 40 little 9-patches here. Next is purple.
I got 'Dottie' quilted, bound, and label done! My SIL, also, used the cold time to finish up the binding and label on her latest. Hopefull we will have some decent photo weather to show these.
Once I cleaned the machine and put in a new needle, I worked on the next 'Adinkra' block. With all of the BOMs and QALs, I have been very selective and keeping my list short - JUST TOO MANY. This one caught my eye as I don't do many applique and I was intriqued being an ethnic project. One of our quilt guild members (and she come to the shop to sew) will be traveling to Africa this summer and I hope she can pick me up some fabrics for this - won't that be so cool? I am doing the blocks with some of my solid scraps for the symbols on muslin backing which should make it easy to match up some regional fabrics.
Since we are into the midlle of the month, I thought I better get moving on my 'Let's Book It' project. The block bases are made and the fuseable ready - now to find the right scraps for those flowers I picked.
I have some in-town errands to run in the morning and then I am getting to those purple 9-patches and fuse those flowers. My SIL has another little quilt ready for quilting - just stinking cute - and I would like to pull another of my own. I might have time to prep a back for one of my large quilts to hand off to the long armer - I want that tote emptied by May.

We are into a very cold spell thru the weekend. Single digits with wind chills making it -20 to -30. My wonderful brother called Saturday morning to say he would do the recyle run (my job) as he was already dressed for the outdoors doing some wood as long as he could use my Jeep - YES SIR!
Even the furkids won't even sit in the kitty window (like a pet door, but set up in my kitchen window). Moe usually will venture in anything, but he has camped out on the spare bed and Bella is being a couch potato amongst all the blankets/quilts.
I spent the day picking up my scrap play and some housework - just to keep warm mind you. Then I decided it was time to baste out 'Dottie'. I'm a week behind schedule on quilting this. I was having the worse time keeping it on the table - why?
Ha! And she thought she was being sneaky. I never heard her get up from the couch.
Bella - you stinker!! At least she wasn't on top of it plucking my basting pins as I went which is her usual style.
I know you all are going to get tired of this as the year goes on, but I just love this project. The 365 (366 with Leap Year) is starting to look like a quilt. I have the next six blocks/circles prepped and will do these to take breaks in the FMQ of Dottie. I'm constantly asked (and usually they are no re-ply commentors) about my background blocks. I am using Moda's Zen Chic 'Background-Paper'. I have two jelly rolls of it. One has been used to pre-make the blocks - just two strips sewn together and then sub cut into 4.5" squares. I'm setting them randomly like a 2-rail, but not concerned whether I have a light/dark setting - just having fun with it. When this group is used up, I will prepare the second jelly roll the same way - I know I will need all of both.
With another (worse) cold day, slowing down is defnitely on the schedule,

I finished up the last four blocks of the Moda Sampler Block Shuffle QAL. I hope to have these into an 'almost' flimsy by the end of the month. I know how I want to set them and then because I had gotten two layer cakes for this and only used one for the blocks - I think I need to make a piano key boarder to use them up. Or maybe I'll get yardage of one of the paisley prints for the border and save that other layer cake.
I spent some time away again with my daughter and the grands and it takes me some time to adjust back into a schedule. Interpret that into I need to recover and rest. I haven't worked on my Wild & Goosey blocks in a bit, so these are something I don't have to think to hard on.
While the bits and pieces were out on the table, I thought I better get the tree block done for Quilt Doodle Designs QAL. I assembled mine differently from Cindy's as I was using up strips and it just worked out this way. I'm just making one block of each (I think) as I am just making a wallhanging instead of the full quilt.
Since the mess is still on the table and I need to lighten that barrel of 1.5" squares, I will play with some little blocks for RSC16. One more day of play with bits should get me back in the groove for something bigger.
ALSO - so excited - my Heritage Stars quilt is over on THE Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilts web site! I really need to get this one quilted!!

I pulled this over flowing tote to play with Monday with a set purpose.
To build houses for the House Block Party (see side bar button). This one is for the block lotto. My 300 year old brick house is this wonky and the poor little Maple next to it has had so much storm damage it looks this way.
And this one is to be donated for the charity quilt.
The Amish Nines is a first February finish, too. This was made entirely from scraps. Those little nines needed small amounts so not too many solid scraps were used up. The Kona black is left over strips from prior projects - what's left is going into some log cabin blocks. The back was a piece of Thimbleberries - just enough. I used a scrap piece of Quilter's Dream Select cotton batt with scrap piece of crafter's felt - makes these mini wallhangings hang nice and flat.
