OMG - June 2020

The OMG has been great motivation to either move a project on to it's next step or to completely finish something.  I started with the move it on, but now I have a big stack of to be finished.

This is one of my 'oldies' that was way in the bottom of the bin.  I made several quilts and minatures using the 'Crazy for Red' line.  I had a lot of the browns and dark reds left and used this to finish up the lights in a very simple pattern.

I hand quilted a number of the miniatures in a Baptist Fan so this large quilt I am going to attempt the BF by machine.  And I wisely saved a large piece of red for the binding (pinned to it)

I had a large piece of Extra Wide backing of this pretty creamy Toile.  We have a stretch of nice weather (for a change) and I have plans to take a few outings with out new phasing in the area.  The next stormy, rainy stretch will see this quilt under the needle.

Please be sure to visit the LINK-UP - Oh, there are a lot of great projects being worked on!

Scrappy Wednesday

I'm starting to work on the project using the gifted charm pack.  It was a bit of mix of bright colors and I pulled the few charms that were small prints on a white background.  Easy enough to dig thru my FQ totes to find replacements for them that work into this mix.

The white and black are scraps off the shelf and I will dig around for a border.  Maybe I will even raid the left over binding drawer for some colorful pieces to add a scrappy binding to finish this off.

The pattern is Garden Path by Amanda @ Jedi Craft Girl.  It was one of a series of the 'Five Fat Quarter' patterns and you can find them under her pattern/tutorial  page.  Since it cuts those FQs to 5" squares, it was perfect to use those charms instead.

I make it a policy not to discuss politics on my blog, but times are getting very scarey right now.  All I can say is:  please VOTE in November.

Hands2Help 2020

I have been participating in H2H since it's birth.  I would like to thank SARAH for all the hard work she puts into this each year.  She deserves a Gold Star this year - moved to a new home, Covid-19, a tornado in her home town, and several venues that she attends to gather donations closed so I know she had to do more work.

I am not only posting my own donation quilts, but some of my fellow guild members' who do not blog but like to participate.  Our guild - Schoharie Valley Piecemakers - does an annual quilt drive for the local Catholic Charities Office.  They serve our communities in-need families in many ways and this adds to their family donation boxes.

Monday Making

A long May is finally over.  A very difficult month for sure - lock downs, demonstrations and riots, curfews, and we here in the NorEast had snow days.  Heck, even last night was heavy frost!  I haven't put my winter coat away yet.

Seven miniatures and table toppers got made, two quilts quilted and two more flimsies got added to the pile.  I'm suppose to be keeping ahead with the quilting pile - oh well.

The last pile of blocks are coming out of the project tote - the tote has been filled back up with solids now.  And I came across a gifted stack of charms that I will look for a quick baby quilt pattern to use them up.

I found black!!  Keepsake Quilting has what they call 'Amish Black' (kona) and they have pre-cuts of 1, 2, or 3 yrds which you can see come nicely packaged.  Although everything checked out available when I ordered, there was only half my order with the other half 'not available - back ordered'.   We shall see if it ever arrives - this has happened to me in the past with this shop.  BUT I have my black!

My first job is to get the scrappy rail fence log cabin quilt into the flimsy stage.  This shouldn't take long as I have the halves together - it's just stitching those two with one long seam and done.

Then next is getting the binding done on my 'Stitching Sunshine Hop' project.

The 20 gallon tote stuffed with shirtings, plaids, and flannels has been pulled into view.  Time to play with those chickens and the Lincoln quilt.  I'll set aside some for the Hobo Quilt I want to start in the Fall.

I need to pull my OMG project and probably another to-be-quilted top.  June is another long month - right?
