Small, Smaller, Smallest

I want to thank Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for organizing another fun Hop.  I am a scrap quilter who's LOVE is minatures, so of course I had to join in.

My goal was to use up these scraps left over from a quilted jacket I had made for a guild challenge.  Too pretty to break down and throw into the mix of other scraps.  They needed their own project.

I needed a plan that would use that small amount of fabric to it's best advantage so it was ALL used.  I took the SMALL pieces and turned them  into the SMALLEST part of this piece.  Yes, those are one inch squares!

I then turned the SMALLEST into the SMALLER.  Several cute , tiny nine-patches ready to be set into the finished project.

I find a nine-patch just changes it's look when set on point.  I used what larger pieces I had for the border and pieced alot of the others to make the binding.  ALL of those scraps were used up into the SMALL project that included all of small, smaller, smallest.

I am currently working on another SMALL project for the RSC18 month's color of Spring Green.  Since I've used a lot of my greens in the past 3 quilts, I had to dig thru my scrap barrels for the SMALLEST bits to make SMALLER bird houses.  My SMALLEST of buttons will be the 'holes' and maybe some SMALLER buttons added to the border (yet to be put on).

For those not familiar with me and my 'barrels' - this is my old Pottery Shelf with my barrels of 'pre-cut' squares.  I work my fabrics down thru a system and when they get SMALL they go into these by 1.5", 2", 2.5" 3.5", and 5" sizes.  I seperate some of the SMALLEST sizes lites into those upper kitty snack jars.  My wonderful Eclair (yum) boxes have all of my buttons - well, some of them.

If you noticed, one of the big jars was rather full!!  I have made so many quilts from this and it is still stuffed.  I have several 'gifted' bags of fabrics to sort thru and I know I need space in this size.  So I am GIVING my 2" squares away - mailing only within the US.  I know these will fill a LARGE priority box - once I dump and fluff.  That's a lot of squares!  Just be sure I have a way of contacting you if interested.

Monday Making

I decided to pull my drawer of greens which is so over flowing even with making 4 quilts out of it.  Looking for some pieces to use for the new Spring Green RSC18 color of the month.  I'm a little bit shy of this color hue as I used it up in my Meadow's Mountains and Little Love Hop quilt.

So I've dumped my 2.5" squares barrel to look for some small bits because that's where my Spring Greens would have been cut up in to.

Rather than another quilt, I've decided to make a mini.  I love working small and this will fill my RSC color project.  ** pattern link found HERE ** AND speaking of small, please take time to visit the participants in the new Blog Hop.

Oh, Scraps with a Storm

I took pictures on early Friday Morn as the storm had started around 9pm EST Thursday - we woke to this.  And more came!!  It was a heavy, wet snow as you can see it sticking to the trees in great mounds.

Which led to some of this.  We just pushed/pulled enough to get things out of the lane so my brother could try to keep a path for an Emergency.

My brother plowing for a second time while I shoveled for a second time.  We fought this for a third round and then the winds picked up making it a total white out and too dangerous.

We had 38" of snow, some places had more as our County was in the eye of the storm.  We will be staying on the cold side so this stuff should melt off slowly.  I'll take this over all the awful flooding going on along the coast.

We never lost power, but did have some brown outs and flickers.  I powered a few things down (like the computer), but I did sew!  A cone of thread empty - yahoo.  A new one is now on the machine.

Since I had all those 4-patches made and laying in the box, I put this quilt together while waiting out the storm.  This was an attempt to clear some space in my barrel system - hardly a dent; really!

This is a Temecula Quilt Co pattern for one of their 'summer scrap' sew alongs.  I used 1.5", 2.5", and 4.5" squares but you could bump this up for a larger quilt using 2", 3.5", and 6.5" squares.   You could add a border,  but this design just says 'NO' to that - so I'm not.

March Lion

Well March has decided to roar into our area.  I live in that PINK zone.  Lots of snow and some very bad winds.  We probably will be buried and without power.  National Grid has brought in a lot of trucks and county plows are ready - a State of Emergency has been called.  It started snowing around 9pm EST and it is expected to last for 24 hrs.

In case we lose power, I ran my machine like no tomorrow all day Thursday.  I needed seventy 4-patches to go with those thirty six 16-patches.  It's so handy to have those barrels of scraps cut down to working sizes.

All done and pressed and ready for a little squaring up.  Next I need fifty five 4.5" squares.  I have pulled my barrel containing 5" cuts and left over charms.  The rotary cutter may be my tool for the day.

I have a small piece that I am handquilting that might see some activity should the power go.  And there is always the hexie projects.  We have supplies and a generator; and I filled some jugs with water (drinking) as well as some pails (toilet).... oh, and the shovel is by the door ...  ready.

Stay safe out there,
