Give It A Whirl

First I'd like to thank CAROL fir organizing this HOP.  The challenge was anything that whirls or spins - use your creativity and imagination.  With March winds, so perfect - and we have had winds here!

Also, at this time our guild's program was about quilting rulers.  Members to bring in a ruler or template and share it's use (good or bad experience) and a project you made from it.

The perfect ruler to cover both venues.  This was one of my first bought rulers many years ago and like all things, it seems to be back in style again.

Some members said they had tryied it, but there was so much fabric waste.  Well, I don't waste and I showed a solution.  *I was luck to have another member bring many of her small projects - so we tag teamed*

I happen to have all three size rulers.  The largest for the 10" squares, the medium size for the 5" square fabrics, and the tiniest for the 2.5" squares.  If you cut your largest carefully, you get nice 5" squares to use again, and so with cutting the 5"  carefully (my trusty mini rotary) you get 2.5" squares left for a mini project.  Very little waste and three projects out of one.

This quilt was made using a layer cake (10" squares), some Kona black, and the largest ruler.  I have saved the left overs to play with another time.

They have so many fun pattern layouts for seasonal projects, flags, hearts, and even the popular gnome.

Thank you for visiting  and be sure to 'blow' in on all the hosts:

Lovely quilt, it looks like a nice for for a man. I have the ruler for the 5" squares and I used the leftovers too. It just depends on how careful a person with the cutting.

Great quilt and I am with you on those twister templates. I love them and managed to get 3 quilts out of 1 with them. It may be time for me to play around with them again soon. Thanks for the inspiration.

You are the queen of scraps and using every bit of fabric that you can. I, on the other hand, felt I totally wasted fabric using that ruler. I'll have to give it another go and use the smaller rulers for the extra fabric. It does make a fabulous quilt though. I love how warm and cozy yours looks in those fabrics. Thank you for sharing your whirly quilt, Sharon!

I love the twisters. I've made several and have most of the templates. My first templates were homemade but still quite fun. I need to get some future twisters made. Thanks for the reminder. This is lovely!

I love the twister tool and have been thinking I need to use it again. It’s perfect for this hop, and your thoughts on starting big and working our way to small blocks are helpful. Thanks for sharing.

A beautiful quilt and I love that you use the next size down template to make the smaller size quilt from the left over fabric.

I've seen that ruler, but I don't own one. Your quilt is really cool, and I'll bet you'll have loads of fun playing with the leftovers. Thanks for sharing.

Im not sure how, but I missed collecting that particular set of rulers. It/they really make a very nice whirl effect. Love your color choice too.

We have March winds here too! I have yet to try this quilt block and it looks like when I'm ready, the ruler is the key. Thank you so much for sharing. Beautiful quilt.

Love the contrast between the blocks and the background. Beautifully done. Always nice to get double duty from a project.

Great looking quilt. I've tried the ruler, but it wasn't a fav of mine. Not sure if I kept it or not.
