ON A BREAK

I will be on a break for a bit.  My mother had suffered a stroke on Tuesday, Sept 4th, which also resulted in a very bad fall.  I am caring for her at home.  I am just working a little bit on some hand stitching, but quilting is not on the agenda right now.  Luckily my project and post is ready for the up-coming House Hop, so see you then.

Lots of love and caring wishes that all will go better as each week goes by. Hand stitching is good to have, quiet, relaxing, and easy to pick up now and then.XXX

Sharon, I am very sorry about your mother's health. I want you to know that I am praying for each your mother and you as her daughter and caregiver. Remember that God is still in the miracle business. That must have been an awful week. At 1:30 AM on September 3, I received a call from my son who lives in Arkansas. I live in Oklahoma about 2 hours away from him. He had received a call from one of the two largest hospitals in Tulsa and the hospital had his dad. The hospital was running tests to try to determine what was wrong with his dad and our family physician had given orders to admit him. His dad and I have been divorced for 20 years. September 6 of this year would have been our 44th wedding anniversary. I told him to call me if he needed me and to call me when he was ready to come to my house so that I could let him in the house. At 6AM, I received a call to let him in the house. Of course, I had not received any more sleep. There was a question as to whether his father had suffered a stroke. Regardless, he had a seizure while my sorry was travelling to Tulsa. He was totalled discombobulated. As they got the patient ready to admit him and transferred him to a bed, it became apparent that his right hip was extremely painful. It turns out that the hip was a total disaster. He had broken the front and back columns in the hip and moved the socket (from a previous hip replacement) almost to the bladder. So, the leg was put in traction. The doctor who did that tried to put the pin through the leg above the knee and hit a plate in his leg. So, he had to have the pin below the knee. That was a fiasco. It was an ordeal to determine if the patient was stable enough to undergo surgery. I'm not sure what was finally determined but I THINK doctors surmise that he had a seizure which caused him to fall at home and then another seizure after he got to the hospital. Regardless, he cannot drive for six months of being seizure free. He had surgery
Tuesday of this past week to rebuild the front size of the pelvis and Thursday to rebuild the back side of the pelvis and redo the prior hip replacement. The patient is glum about the driving and being in a rehab facility for probably 10 weeks. My son and I practically lived at the hospital last week and kept our daughter, and my son's sister who lives in Albuquerque updated. I can only imagine what you are enduring. God Bless You!
