Whooping Friday

I worked thru the last of that baggy of scraps and managed to get 10 more Rails Fence blocks and 10 more Log Cabins.  There's another grocery bag of scraps that will get worked into this project and may just make enough for a complete quilt.

I worked the brown Broken Dishes blocks as leader/enders with the Rails & Logs.  Another 10 of those.  That may be how this project comes together - as a leader/ender amongst something else.

My poor Earlene is going slowly as there is a lot of small areas requiring changes of color (and bitty stitches).  A bit at a time will get her done OR I might just dedicate those stitches thru the weekend.  

And I did a bit of retail therapy.  I would prefer to shop and support local, but my car was in the garage most of August.  Besides, Connecting Threads had some super sales and then threw in a 20% of your entire order - TOO TEMPTING to pass up.  Some fun fabrics for binding  and two extra wide backings - will need those as quilts get finished up here soon.  I bought a few w/w's, but they are had to to photo.  I needed to restock my 'basics' that are required to tie all those scraps together.

And there were FQ color bundles on sale.  I checked my color totes and ORANGE had a few scraps (not FQS).  So I got the orange - ESP, as the RSC17 color this month is orange.  I don't use a lot of orange so these should last me for a few years!

Scrappy Wednesday

I worked the last few days on finishing up the library totes for my guild charity project.  Kitties, owls, and bears - oh my!

And I had these two pieces of panel left overs that I was saving for pillows, but they make cute totes.

And I did get the pineapple blocks done and into their mini, but will share that when presented.

The next temperature rosette completed.  It's fun to see the other temp quilts grow as each uses their own color chart for their region/season.  As you can see, we got rather cold over the past week.

It's been a difficult few days with pain for those in Texas and then realizing as locals were posting on FB photos of the flooding in our own Valley from Irene - the Anniversary of storm Irene no less.  Also, my Dad's birthday fell into this mix and I miss him every day.

Today I will find some solace in playing with these again.  Using up those last few scraps from that larger baggy to make log cabins and rails with Bonnie Hunter's challange.  These should make short work of those few left overs, but no fear - there is another baggy to dig in to.

There is a new button on the side bar for Amy Ellis' Bloggers' Quilt Show.  This year there will be no voting or catagories - random draw for give aways.

RSC17 - Neutrals

This month's 'color' for RSC was neutrals.  Our quilt guild's Summer Challenge and Charity project is library totes.  I had just enough of this cute Kitty neutral for two fronts and handles (add a strip in the back).  I pulled apart a solid jelly roll to match up some of the color in the cats.  And a neutral lining with 'fur' spots to round them both out.  

I have a few more cut out and prepped - using up my brights and slimming down some other kitty stash.  My weekend project mixed with some housework projects.

No piggies this month.  I want bright and fun little oinkers, so my neutral is the piggy (pen) barn.  I know some of you wondered what block I would put on the barn - simple and a bit colorful - to match the piggies.  Plus, they were scraps laying on the side table waiting to either be put away or used - I used.

My heart, soul, prayers are with those in the wrath of Harvey.

Scrappy Wednesday

I love having scraps and playing with scraps, but it got to a point of being over whelmed - so I shared some of my gifted and own pieces with our sewing ladies thru the weeks.  Things laid out on the long banquet table and come help yourself.  Oh, I could keep it - stuff the boxes, totes, shelves, BUT never to be used up or seen.  Sharing is more fun. 

I have plenty of scraps to play with, like my bits of CW fabrics that I have saved right to the smallest piece.  They are coming in handy with the Temecula Quilt Co Marvelous Minis.

Even my temperature rosettes are being made with scraps.  I chose to designate the eclipse in this weeks as it was a special event for the year.  76,73,74,77, 80,E,80

Someone asked to see how the Rolling Nines block looked set together, so I set them out.  The prints are from a FQ bundle, but I am using up some Kona White that was cut offs from a few quilts.

My smallest bits of throw aways from that snip bag - eight pineapples done and I need to make eight more.  These are paper pieced and 3.5" unfinished.  Todays project!!
