On The Wall 3/6/16

I guess it is part of that scrap challenge, but I pulled my totes of left over Marcus - FQs, scraps, and skinny strings.

Since I have finished up all the testing and quilting projects, I wanted to get started on the Westering Women BOM with Barbara Brackman.  I love the mix of history with quilts.

And I do love the heritage of the old blocks.  While playing with these and going thru those totes, I realized the cut offs and 'too small' bits would be perfect to play with..........

Temecula Quilt Co.'s 'Circa 2016' quilt along.  Yup, I put these little blocks together in a day to catch up with the center medallion of this quilt.  Don't hate me, I just really love playing with little bits and lose myself in them.

Even the next round of blocks got made.  I have no idea how many of these will be addded to the quilt, but I will certainly use my cut-offs from Westering to make these.

And to play along with Monday Making, I will start my 'Let's Book It' project.  I know, I was going to use up those odd layer cakes - BUT, I came across this JR and will use up some odd strips to fill in.

For the life of me, I couldn't get this to photo in true color, but it is blacks, greys, limey greens with just a smidge of yellow thrown in (some of the greens show as yellow).  I hope to get half of the blocks done today.  And this project will give me *bonus* little HSTs for another project.  SCORE!!

RSC16 - March - Purple & Yellow

I went digging for purple scraps - where are they???  Well, I forgot that I did my purple blocks in January when it was blue with a touch of purple.  So I only had to do my little yellow ones.  I managed 22  little 9-patches out of my barrel, which is starting to look like it has a dent in it now.

Then came the bitty log cabin blocks.  These don't eat up a lot of scraps, but they are so fun to make.

And adding more to my spools.  The scraps for the spools and cabins came from the little red basket I am trying to empty for the 'scrap challenge' (see side button)...............

  
this is what has been processed into my scrap fabric system after completing the blocks.  3.5", 2.5". 2" and 1.5" squares for the barrels.  There was a piece to go into the yellow FQ tote, and some strips for the string tote.

Won't You Join in the Scrap Movement

Although I don't have a scrap problem (I'm a scrap quilter and would hate to see them gone), I will be keeping myself on track with Sarah in this wonderful concept of taming, keeping order, processing, and USING those scraps that seem to over take us.

I looked up the last big scrap clean up - this photo is from 2/2013.  I slowly worked thru 3.5 large tubs of scraps into a modified Bonnie Hunter system that worked for me.  I try really hard to maintain it, but some times things get out of hand.

I could have cropped out the background, but hey - let's keep it real.  I've been in a time crunch to finish up some testing projects.  THUS - the usual method of cleaning up after each day has gotten lost.  A pile of items on the corner of this table.

And the little table - well, lost totally!!  Monthly projects need putting away as well as that pile of scraps in the back - need to be processed.

I gathered up all the loose scraps into the red basket.  These all need processing into my barrel system.  The clear tub I have been working my RSC16 blocks out of, but there are a lot of things there that just need to go on the chopping block.

And Moe??  Well, he adopted the box that some of my new fabrics came in.  Some people were amazed at the 50 yards ordered.  That will go fast.  It's all solids - mostly Kona - that are a staple to marry all those scraps.    If you think about it - I just used up 12 yards with backing and binding for two quilts (stuff that was already on the shelf).  Hopefully that 50 yards will make it thru the year.

I'll link up my beginning project - processing those two small tubs - and share with the end of the month link up.  That will be my barrel system.  A LOT of quilts come out of those barrels.
