Christmas QAL - June

This weekend I will be participating in the Christmas QAL and linking up over at Joanna's with the rest of the players.  The is also a challenge this year - a Christmas project using no red or green.  Details are on Joanna's board.

I've pulled out the 'under the bed' tote of seasonal fabric, orphan blocks, etc.. and I know I have gathered a few FQs over the last couple of months, so will add them to the mix.  This is my toy box for these weekends.

First thing I must do is put this binding on a quilt.  It is not a Christmas quilt, but the fabric is - just some fun to add to this huge quilt!  Then I can put a few hand stitches into the binding as I pass it while working on other projects this weekend.

I have a couple of aprons cut and ready to play with.  I'm hoping I can find some kitchen towels to match for a cute gift set.

And for my non-red/green project - I bought this small clover rotary and extra blades to play with the tiniest of Twister templates - I laid a 1.5" square of fabric with the template to show the size.

Felines, Yellow & X-mas

I know, an odd post title - but it will all make sense in a minute.  I haven't had a Feline Friday  post in a while - they aren't allowed.  BUT occassionally when my back is turned they sneak a nap in.  How funny Moe goes for the black or brown quilts and Bella goes for RED.  And always when you are trying to lay out blocks for assembling tops.  One of the quilts for the Oklahoma teachers - yes, I have two all quilted up and waiting to hear where to mail them.

And since I will be busy thru the weekend with a new venture, I am posting up my yellow for the Rainbow Challenge.  I always start with this large star block to use the larger bits of fabric first.

Then I move to the Sprouts blocks.  My bit of whimsy this time with the yellow?  Did you find the elephants?

Next I find material to play with these cute starlet blocks.

Last I make up the tiny log cabin blocks with what is left in the pile.  I didn't have a lot of yellow in that zip bag  - but it is used up (little bit left was cut down for the pre-cut barrels).

I did all my yellow scrapping in a couple of days rather than constantly pull that baggy out over the month - I have some fun other things to play with (new buttons on the side bar).  Will link up with ScrapHappy on Saturday - take a peek at what others are playing with their yellows.

This weekend I will be playing with this - New Christmas QAL with Joanna.  You can work on anything you like or take on the challenge - or both!  I have already pulled fabrics and patterns.  We are to have a weekend of RAIN from the tropical storm Andrea (hopefully no tornados).  Why not join us for the weekend - or even just one day.

Country Charmer Update

It's time for the monthly update for the Country Charmer QAL.  A wonderful pattern by Lynne of Sew'n Wild Oaks  hosted by the lovely Lesley of The Cuddle Quilter.

I added two more 'red' blocks (red corner stones) so I have five now.  I have figured I have four primary colors so if I make 5 of each I should have a nice balance thru my 20 blocks.

And two more 'blue' blocks to go with the three done.  I only need four more blocks to finish up in June - two green and two brown.  Then I can lay them out to audition sashing fabrics.

Hands 2 Help Link Up

Today is the link up for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2013 over at Sarah's Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I committed myself to donating two quilts - one for Happy Chemo and one for Quilts Beyond Borders.

I love playing with scraps and pulled my barrel of 2" squares  to make a Postage Stamp quilt.  The tradition of these is not only of early recyling, but where usually gifted to a new family into the community.  This quilt has been sent and confirmed received by Happy Chemo.

I fell in love with this line - Apple Jacks by Tim & Beck and thought it would make a fun quilt full of color and texture.  A great snuggle, full of hugs quilt for a child.  This quilt has been sent and confirmed received by Quilts Beyond Borders.
