May For Me - Day 4

I enjoyed ME time with my SIL on Thursday. Happy to have gotten the perfect backing and batt and then to come home and my long armer was here, so I could hand that quilt right over - couldn't plan that any better. I treated my self to some flowers - yes, fake but then I don't have to worry about bugs and ants that come with those outdoor peonies and they last longer. And some cute little wash tubs. Wish they had a white - can you see these holding a project in waiting - and future prop for that up-coming blog hop.

BINGO CALL WORDS

G - CROCODILE
O - RAINBOW
G - MESH
G - CANDYCORN (NOT CANDY OR CORN)
G - POT OF GOLD OR GOLD

Remember we all have different lists, so check in with Marcia, Tonya, and Snoodles for their words as well as what they may share for May For Me.

That means 80 items have been called this week.
If you get a BINGO contact Tonya at Hillbilly Handiworks.

CLOSING THOUGHT

I am adding a May For Me item to my list that was shared last year by Heather. UN-PLUG one day a week. Yes, you can live without that computer on or that TV. Now I spent part of Thursday un-plugged, and we are not calling Bingo Words over the weekend. So I will un-plug for a while on Saturday as I am visiting my daughter and grandies - I will be back for pulling the winners of this week's Birthday Celebration. And Sunday - I'm dedicating this day to a special project until finished. Can you take the un-plugged challenge?

May For Me - Day 3

Yesterday I spent sharing my space with my SIL. She is becoming more confident and can work on her own. She finished up her pot holders - a dozen or so of each - cupcakes and pot pinchers.

And I was able to start assembling all those string blocks. For those that asked, this is the layout chosen. I am going to put thin black sashing inbetween to keep the star pattern - other wise they turn into another whole new look.

Once we did a little clean up - we started to play with prepping some pincushions - some simple easy work, to fill in the afternoon.

BINGO CALL WORDS

N - SUNFLOWER(S) *NOT SUN OR FLOWER*
N - TRAIN(S)
I - MATOR
O - LIZARD(S)
O - RAIN *JUST RAIN*

Remember we all have different lists, so check in with Marcia, Tonya, and Snoodles for their words as well as what they may share for May For Me.

Today, my ME time is going shopping - away from the computer. My SIL and I need to pick up a few supplies for some other projects planned, a few groceries, and a stop at the LQS for a wide quilt backing and king batt (maybe even some wonderful new Sulky Thread).

CLOSING THOUGHT

May For Me-Day 2

CROCKPOT CHERRY COLA CHOCOLATE CAKE

Cake Ingredients:
1/2 cup cola
1/2 cup dried tart cherries
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 ounces semisweet chocolate- chopped
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate milk
1/2 cup butter - melted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping Ingredients:
1-1/4 cups cola
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 ounces semisweet chocolate - chopped
1/4 cup dark rum (I used 2 teaspoons of rum extract)

Step One:
In a small saucepan - bring cola and dried cherries to a boil. Remove from heat and let stand for 30 minutes.

Step Two:
In a large bowl - combine flour, sugar, chocolate, baking powder and salt.

Step Three:
In seperate bowl - combine melted butter (I microwaved), chocolate milk and vanilla.

Step Four:
(topping) In small saucepan, combine cola, sugar and brown sugar. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, sir in chocolate and rum - stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.

Step Five:
Slowly add wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, folding just to moistened. Fold in cherry mixture. Spray crockpot with cooking spray or coat with butter. Carefully pour in batter, preventing anything on sides or top.

Step Five:
Carefully pour topping mixture on top of cake batter - do not stir. Cover crockpot, set on high, and cook for 2 to 2-1/2 hrs. or until inserted knive come comes out clean. (mine took about 2hrs. 15 mins.) Turn off and let sit for 30 minutes.

This will still be very hot!! AND not a good idea to flip onto a cake plate as the topping sets to the bottom and you get a nice 'plop' of hot goo!! Best to serve from the crockpot. A little vanilla ice cream, or some whipped cream with some favorite toppings. Doesn't look pleasant, but let me tell you - yummo!! And I was very pleased with myself - I am so not the baker. ** this recipe was in the little cookbook that came with my crockpot**

BINGO CALL WORDS

A few of you were upset that you didn't get any words yesterday - neither did I - BUT I had the FREE space! Today may be your lucky day.

B - BIRD(S)
O - COWGIRL(S)
G - PENQUIN(S)
N - BRICK(S)
G - DOLL(Y)

Remember to check in with Marcia, Tonya, and Snoodles for their words as well as what they may share for May For Me.

What will you be doing today for your May For Me? I will be sewing with my SIL again - we have just a few more potholders to finish off. Then some clean up, maybe while she browses some magazines and books and thinks about the next project, I can pull my fabrics for the Sliced Apples Quilt Along.

CLOSING THOUGHT

"Tis like the birthday of the world,
When earth was born in bloom;
The light is made of many dyes,
The air is all perfume:
There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
The very rainbow showers
Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
And sown the earth with flowers."

May Day

My card is ready - I'm playig along for fun, you 'peeps' get the prizes. Now you can mark your card any way you like, we just suggested sewing buttons on your squares as a way of finishing off your mini quilt. And of course you all get to mark you center square - that's a free spot.

BINGO CALL:

G - RHINO
I - PIN(S)
O - TURTLE(S)
N - SCISSORS
N - BULLDOG

Be sure you visit Tonya, Marcia and Snoodles for their call words. And Marcia has set up a tab where she will list Bingo Winners so you can check. Tonya has the rules and prize list for the various types of 'bingo' - you really should check that out, because even though you don't get up, down, across, there are other 'bingos'. If you should get a BINGO - **please let Tonya know** (comment on her blog or e-mail her) as she has the master list and linked cards to double check.

ME TIME

I will be sharing my sewing space today with my SIL, so I plan on playing with my string blocks. Luckily my old phone book was 6.5" wide so I made 6" squares (to trim the glue edge). I Used a 2.5" string down corner to corner and then 1.5" and smaller strings on either side - and my orphan triangles on the corners. Then slice that center strip corner to corner to have two triangles. I then cut my lovely black Kona into 6" squares, cut corner to corner and then sewed to strings for lovely HSTs. Pressed and trimmed to 5.5" square.

WEEK 1 GIVE AWAY

I am giving away 2 double pks of charms - Love Letters and Farmer's Market. You must be a follower and make sure I have a way of contacting you. I will ship international. Just leave me a comment on at least one plan you have for May For Me. Marcia is dancing - you have to see the 'Wiggle' video if you don't know the wiggle dance. Comments open until Saturday, May 5th until 8pm (EST) and winner announced at 9pm.

And it would be nice to go give Teri at QuiltnCards a birthday wish today - Happy Birthday Teri!

CLOSING THOUGHT

Tomorrow I will be sharing Crockpot Cherry Cola Chocolate Cake!
