November NewFO - 2013

So hard to believe we are almost finished with another year.  November was so busy for me with things for Hops and vending that this long month really flew by.

Items for the 'For The Boys' blog hop.  I made crayon rollups for my vending booth and the shop and they sold out quicker than you can wink!  Most of my 'boy/men' items did well and there were a lot of comments on how nice it was to find things to buy for the males of the family.

And the chicken quilt for the 'Black Tie Boogie' hop.  I think I have narrowed down the names for Elvis' girls from all those suggestions.  I will get those added in December.

The mini wreath done on the Christmas QAL weekend, simple project table runner, Bea's leader/ender blocks - they should become a flimsie in December, and of course that fun pink cadillac fabric project(s).

I know NewFO is to encourage starting something new with no rush or no finish and no pressure, but I do have a tendency to finish don't I - LOL!!  December will be more laid back with just playing with a few finishes as desired and taking my time with Bonnie Hunter's new mystery.  I thank Barbara of Cat Patches for hosting - be sure to see what others have linked.

Country Charmer QAL Parade

It all started with this pattern by Lynn of Sew'n Wild Oaks who so graciously shared all her talents, tips, and hints along the way. And the was our ever gracious host and cheerleader, Lesley - The Cuddle Quilter who each month let us post our 'at your pace' venture with this lovely quilt.

My version of Country Charmer - out on a bed for the first time.  The sweet talents of Valerie - The Pumpkin Patch Quilter frosted my quilt so lovingly.

  

 As a scrap quilter who has no problem putting all those odds, ends, and uglies together -  I did stress over this one.  I finally left scrap/color selection to my SIL - one block at a time and finally it all came together.

Yes, had to add this, kitties are not allowed in this room, or on this bed, or on this quilt.  I had to chase her so many times so I could get a few photos.  Bella, you got a once in a lifetime!

Turkey or Chicken

I hope you all had a lovely and safe Holiday.  Whether it was the traditional turkey or any other choice of meal - hope you indulged to the fullest as that is all part of it.  I enjoyed all the comments and name suggestions for Elvis' chicks for the Kondo Koop.  I am still sorting thru them to pick ones to fit the girls and then to finish this.  I'll announce the winner at the end of this post as I looked up some information for some requests for patterns.

  

I made my pattern and pdf for a Yahoo group, so it is their property, but I did find these cuties.  Steel Scraps has a tutorial for these tiny chicks in a basket - how cute!!

 And you can find a log cabin layout to change the look at  Quilting Works.

And I saw these on a few Etsy sites as pins and also made 2-sided cabins and stuffed as pincushions.

And then with more searching - I found something very close to mine and may be to your liking.  There is a tutorial found HERE. Of course you can make these up into individual potholders, a few for a runner or wallhanging or go with the whole flock for a conversation quilt.

What a cute idea for a log cabin block! The ladies all have such different personalities. I think Maxine, Cynthia, Edith, Evelyn, Trina and Jolene would be perfect names for the ladies.

Good to Be Back

First I want to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.  We are into a bit of a storm (as are so many areas) and conditions are horrid - so it may be a small gathering. 

It is good to finally be home and not traveling - great due to the sudden change in weather.  Just an in-house week end left and we can relax.  I didn't touch my machine for a whole 9 days!  I did start an Easter (yes, Easter) sampler so I had a little hand work.  But mostly I just collapsed with my furries at the end of each day.

And too funny, I won the raffle basket on the last day of the last show.  Each vendor donated items for these baskets - and my own was in this one, but it was gifted on.  Yes, the chocolate covered peanut brittle was opened and sampled as we were packing up.  And I don't know what I will do with the baby diaper cake or bibs.

I had to do some catching up - I am not sure I have been showing the blocks with this QAL group.  This is the Stash Buster QAL with Linda's QuiltMania.  I think my machine was angry with me for letting her sit idle for so long as it took me a long time to get her purring correctly.

I don't know how many blocks there are planned, but I hope I can squeek 20 out of my left over fat 8's (and scraps) of Boho and the chicken wire is a Moda Basic.

And I wanted to do the Temecula Quilt CO 'Count Down to Christmas', but didn't have the chance with everything picked up and packed out of the way.  I tried to make these little stars as shown and two other ways, but could not get them to look right at that small size.  So I am doing the quilt in a bit larger size - just to be happy with the stars.  Yes, I am playing with my MidWinter Red collection with this one.  I was going to save it for Lynn's Heartfire blocks, but I have a nice FQ bundle for a Summer quilt that I think I will use  for my Heartfire instead.

Meet Elvis - the King of the Kool Koop.  This is a log cabin block with some alterations to make some interestingly fowl characters.  But someone has to rule the roost and I wanted a hip rooster - a little on the dark side.  Those bad boys 'dont cha ya know' - they attract all kinds of girls.  Want to meet the girls?

Ah, the meek and timid sort.  The young and prim, but so attracted.

The spikey hair - an attention getter.  Who will be Elvis' favorite girl.

The more mature chick.  The bee-hive hair-do and stars in her eyes.

Lol - she looks a bit angry, but there is always that skeptical one.

My, this one really is making quite the statement - or a little bit twittered.

A bit of a flirt this one with the bright red hair and wink of an eye.

But Elvis' knows he better keep his ladies happy if he wants to keep them home on the farm or off to the big city they will roam. 

So he made his chicks this Kondo Koop to keep them all kluckingly happy.

Now I know this wallhanging looks complete - with a cockle-doodle-do, but I would like to add name tags (cross stitch on Aida with a burlap backing) to each of the clucky ladies (and Elvis) - so I need your help.............

Quilter's Blog Hop Party

Today begin's the 'Give Thanks' Blog Hop Party over at Quilting Gallery. Michele will have all the links open sometime in the afternoon.   The party runs from November 21st - 26th.  I know there will be something for everyone.

And yes, I DO live on Quilt Lane . When 911 Emergency went into service, all roads had to be named and we got to submit our request.  Our little family in-house quilt and craft shop is open 7 days a week 10-5.

Reminders

Please be sure to visit our Canadian quilters thru this week.  I think this is a grand idea and wouldn't it be fun if other countries put an area hop together.

 

This should be fun - starts on Tuesday.  My day is the 22nd and I have it scheduled for release as I will be sort of 'away' that day and thru the weekend.

Because this is were I will be.  Tomorrow we double check lists and pack anything that doesn't have to be dismantled from the shop.  Tuesday the small stuff from the shop gets packed. Wednesday all the large items and in the evening we pack both vehicles because we set up Thursday and that takes us almost the whole day. Luckily it is only on the other end of town, so if we forget anything it is an easy run to home.

I will be checking blog reads and comments in the evenings- but there will be no sewing for a bit as the machines are packed up - need that table, and that table and that table.....

Please send prayers to those affected by yesterday's storms.  I know our quilting communities will be sending word of what help is needed.  Check on your blogging friends who may be in these areas.

RSC13 & Boy Hop Winner

This month's Rainbow color was Brown.  I think I could make quilts for a whole year with just my brown fabrics, but I just pulled scraps from the bucket for the challenge blocks.

For my whimsy in the Sprout blocks - one of the browns has butterflies.

And my little stars.  I did these blocks early in the month as leader/enders.

The log cabin blocks I started last night and then finished them inbetween  checking my list and packing for class.  I am glad I got them all finished as my machine may be packed away for the next week or two.  I'll have to get a cross stitch going to keep me busy.
