A Finish & A Winner

I'm happy to say that the Batik quilt is finished!  This was one of my 2014 'Let's Book It' projects and is from the book 'Scrap-Basket Senstions' by Kim Brackett.  The pattern is called Island Chain.

I used three different purple cotton prints for the back (yeah, that's off the shelf).  I think you can see - I quilted the patooties out of this!  Straight lined all those links - matching threads on top and used the same purple on the back.  The light areas were micro stippled with an ivory on top and white on the back.  And again straight line quilted the final border with matching thread and that lovely purple thread on the back.

The binding was a piece off the shelf.  Not sure where it came from (thank you my scrap suppliers), but it was perfect.  That dark burgandy in the border, some splotches of pink, lime, purple, and blue - and there was just 3" left over, so a scrap used up.

Another look at it on the line.  It is pretty, but oh my I am glad it is finished.  A mix batik jelly roll from Connecting Threads, background batik and border batik from my LQS (not sure what line).  The cotton backing softened this one up as those batiks were stiff.  Quilter's Dream Select batting.  Thread - So Fine for bobbin and Connecting Threads Pro line used on the top.  And thank you to Connie @ FreeMotion by the River, who I confered with on how to tackle quilting batiks.

The winner of the April 'Let's Book It' link up for the Vintage Sewing Machine Pin and Carolina Lily Charm is #9 Christine

Thank you to all who link up faithfully - there were so many lovely projects for the month of April.  I hope more join us in May.  I know the weather is getting nicer and we like to be outside - yes, you Aussies are heading into the cold seasons - lots of stitching time ahead for you.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

  14. What a beautiful finish Sharon. I love all those quilting details too. Did you have many threads to tie off after or did you slide(double stitch) to the next area to quilt it.
Congrats on a lovely quilt and for using your stash scraps, way to go!

  18. Your batik quilt is beautiful. Love the stained glass look when it's on the line. So much goes into these quilts material wise and then add in the work; they are treasures in more ways than one.
