Happy Valentine's Day

There is no sewing going on at this time as I work a commission piece in cross stitch.  A lovely old prayer into a sampler for a baby shower gift - her first great grandchild:

Father, we thank thee for the night,
and for the pleasant morning light;
for rest and food and loving care,
and all that makes the day so fair.

Help us to do the things we should,
to be to others kind and good;
in all we do, in work or play,
to grow more loving every day.

children's bedtime prayer - Rebecca Weston - 1890

  1. That's beautiful. I have a widow friend who is just a few months younger than I am. She is going to be a great grandmother for the first time and she is over the moon. Unfortunately, the baby girl will live quite a distance from her. She was concerned that her husband's children would have nothing to do with her after he died. Her stepchildren are just about her age. Her only husband was about 25 years older than she was. She always wanted children and just didn't find the right guy until ... She had fabulous opportunities that many of us never did and while she's thankful for them, she wishes she had her own children. She traveled to many, many countries, I think 59, on USO tours with her own band. When she sees people with veteran hats on, she always goes up and thanks them for their service. I've seen her pay for soldiers way into the movies. She is something else. She has a hear of gold for people. She has gotten me and another friend into tutoring inner city kids. She's done it for years and continued during her husband's illness. She had to have something for herself. I met her when my husband died, too - at GriefShare. She sure loves my three year old granddaughter. I need to make something special for her new great. You always inspire me - no matter what you are doing. Thanks.
