Saving Pennies Tally

I participated in Val's Piggy Bank Savings Challenge.  Sounded good and certainly very doable.

I have lots pf piggy banks, but those are for tucking coins for the grandkids.  I thought my lock box would be a safe place, but then I reconsidered as I really do not want the worry of a lot of money in the house.

So I used my regular bank.  I already do not account for those odd dollars in checks in, or those odd 'cents' on a bill (put in the checkbook rounded up to the next dollar.  All those things add up over the year - my Christmas money or 'needs' money.  So I just didn't account for another $150 a month that was direct deposited.

So I did well, but I had the home repair of the leaking bath which caused the cealing to collapse - money from the 'pot'.  Now the car - but that is covered except some routine maintainance added which does have to come out of the 'pot'.  And I am going out to the first every AQS show in SYRACUSE NY the end of this month - need to make those vendors happy.

But I am saving for a mid-arm machine, so I will carry over my savings to Val's challenge next year - maybe that will be my Merry Christmas present to me.

On a Monday

My Monday started out with good news - my car will be ready tomorrow.  The starter had gone and was actually a recall problem - I won't have to sell a kidney to pay for it as it is all covered.  I will have a small bill as I had them do an oil change and replenish any fluids as long as they had it up on the lift.

So I pulled a happy project for the day, only to have a furkid decide it was a good place to nap.  But I worked around her - eventually she decided the sunshine on the front porch was a better napping spot.

Just to make more sense of it all - a better shot of my Let's Book It project.  I hope to get at least the primary start on the strattas completed.  Everything is coming out of the various sources of scraps.

By the time my SIL was done with her sewing time at my place, I had all the strattas (still need the other side) done and the dark border pieces cut.  I have a small pile of scraps that will go into the second part of the strattas, but I have fat quarters and yardage that will fill in when it comes to it.

The scraps will have been cleared!  The purpose of this project.  I do have a small pile of pieces that aren't to size, so I will cut those down into my barrels - they will get used up in future projects.

Tomorrow - since my sewing time will be less due to picking up my car - I want to play with the 1 hour basket everyone is making.

A Finish and a Winner

The 4th of July was a bit of a wash out here - lots of rain.  But the locals didn't let it keep them from making lots of noise.  I could watch in any directions for a 3 hour span and see (and hear) fireworks right from my front porch.

I had some friends and family stop in today - hence the silence and being late with a post.  It was gorgeous today!  But I was able to finish that little bit of hand work for Slow Sunday Stitching and as soon as every one left, I stitched it up into a little needlecase.

Happy 4th Weekend

Since I am carless, I will be home for the holidays so to speak.  But there is food in the pantry, freezer, fridge - I can make up my own picnic.  And I will be sure to add some extra special treats to the furkids' bowls.

Since July is the RSC15  color - RED, I thought my smaller version of the Sister's Choice blocks would be a fun project for the weekend - like sparklers!

Moe is not impressed with red - Bella's color of choice, but she is out hunting.  I collected a few things that need to be stored (to be replaced with new decor items) in my handy basket for transport up/down stairs.  Not a box, but Moe thought it a good place to nap - he even flipped up the little mailer boxes so he could be on the 'fabric'.

Today is Eleanor Burns birthday - go HERE to send some special wishes and please read the post thorough - you can win some of her fabric.

Since I have no plans now, I thought it would be a good weekend to tackle that string box.  A quilt for the Scrap Challenge - see side button for information.  

This is actually a smaller version I made a few years ago - my plan.  I am using print paper at size so these will be larger blocks for a twin bed size.  The only thing I have to pay attention to is that with rectangle string blocks I have to make half with the lite thru one corner/corner and the other half of the blocks with the lite thru the opposite corner/corner.  Other wise - a no think project for the weekend.  And hopefully this project will clear out that string box.
