Monday Making

I found these little gems in container (with other little gems) while doing my reorganization.  60 little Broken Dishes blocks that were bonus units from another quilt.  These are only 4.5" unfinished so I have to find a pattern/design with a mixer to make this of some size - or go small.

I realized after find these blocks that I never showed the original quilt.  This is the quilt those gems came from.  The Lincoln Quilt - flip corners from the star 'geese' units.  This will probably be my January 2021 finishing piece.

And it's Cyber Monday - sales, sales, sales!!!  I actually bought some fabric a few weeks ago on a good sale.  All those quilts that needed yardage to do borders with.  Ha - got my next year's plan mapped out and I'll use OMG again to make it all happen.

Don't forget the Cookies Hop is starting tomorrow - it's that time of year to bake!

A lot of sites are posting special holiday gifts and projects, but I have a love of this shop and wish they were on my coast.  TemeculaQuiltCo is hosting an 'archive' posting of their holiday free projects.  I've made many of them, but how fun to revisit and maybe once the dust has settled I'll actually make a couple again.

End the year with something that makes you smile, gives you a giggle, warms your heart.

November OMG 2020

I've been very happy with my success each month in completing the goal chosen.  This has worked so well with moving a long time UFO into the next step and for finally finishing the quilting.  Please be sure to visit other's progress with OMG HERE .

These were blocks that I had made with RSC and then used the OMG earlier in the year to get them into a flimsy.  This month's goal was to get it quilted.

I didn't have enough of the blue outer border fabric for the binding as planned, but I had the same print in the brown left over.  Simple muslin backing to add to the old world charm of the block.  This will probably be the last quilt finish for the year.

Sharon

Organized Mess

I am working at getting things under control.  For many years I used my dining room/living room as a convalescent area - first from a work accident and then from a car accident.  While recovering from the car accident (almost two years) is when I took up quilting.  It's been a LONG time and now I would like a real dining room and living room and dedicated sewing room.

I'm working with a room that is 20' x 30' - large and very brown.  This is just a small portion and I am stripping right down to minimal.  Most of the room is empty with one small corner my computer and needs (which is getting a change) and one corner has things that go or will find a new 'home' in another room.

Both of my furkids don't like change and have avoided my 'terror' upon them.  BUT, I have gotten a few double takes on why I am not calming them down with maintaining the food bowl to their liking - especially Bella who is on a diet.

I still haven't touched my machine which is buried on a small table with things to put in it's new place.  I do have something I need to work on, but will use one of the classroom machines when ready.

Christmas Cookies and Treats

I like so many do not like the whole count down to Christmas thing, but I think we all need some cheer this year.  I don't do decorating (just the shop), but this year I am setting a few things out - no tree because of two furballs.  I'll set the tree up on Mom's side for her to enjoy.

BUT, you don't want to miss out on the Virtual Cookie Exchange  that Carol has hosted since 2013 - all the pinterest boards can be found on her site.

I'm not the Hop this year, but look forward to finding time to sit down and visit with all these lovely hosts:

Flipping

We had an unexpected night of snow, wind, and ice which led to me finding out just how graceful I was when heading out to the post office.  I didn't fall, thankfully, but it was one of those manauvers that would make for some good laughs on one of those shows.

And rounding out this dreadful year with things failing.  My microwave works if I call it the right (not so nice) names and pound on it, the TV blew a tube so no picture (but I only use it for white noise), and I was really expecting the washing machine next - Not Yet.  It was the camera and hopefully it is just because the battery won't recharge and a new one will cure the problem.

A quilt blogger with no photos just won't do, but I'm not doing any sewing right now - although I need to photo my OMG finish.  I am flipping things around the house.  Things have been in place for soooooooooo many years, time for a new look.  As well as the sewing stuff needs a new shuffle.

Be Safe,

Monday Making

I haven't been doing a lot of quilting as I have been doing more ME things.  I did get the newest 'house' block made for the guild's President Challenge.  This month our catagory is 'National Pride' and there are so many to chose from, but I chose a variation of the Union (unity) Block as that is where my thoughts are.

The bottom row are the mini blocks that I'm doing - copies of the blocks made by members - they are pinned to a scrap piece of batting.  There were several repeats as well as we had only half our members at the meeting.  I'll probably be doing some catch up at some point when those missed reveal their blocks.

As with so many states, we are starting a backward slide with Covid-19.  Schools are starting to shut down and the Governor has (so far) mandated closing restaraunts and bars closing earlier and no group gatherings of more than 6 people for two weeks.  NYC's shennigans of course leads to the shut down of all of us, but we have to have a wake up call to be more dillegent - some people just need a frying pan up the side the head.

We are sliding, also, into extreme cold, high winds (some areas had tornado warnings last night), and heavy rains with snow in higher elevations.  I think I will work on some more of Bonnie Hunter's leader/ender blocks - block making makes me at peace.

Monday Making

Well, all of the sashings and part of the inner border have been stitch in the ditch.  I have an accent line and then ditch on that inner border before tackling the outer border.  I've gone thru 10 bobbins - that's a lot of boring straight line stitching.  I'll clean the machine and change out the needle - wind some new bobbins and find some thread to match that blue.  Then an easy, relaxed FMQ motif to fill.  I'll be using the blue for the binding (already made) and this one should be done today.

It's funny that we had freezing temps with snow a week ago and the past few days we have been in the 70's - beautiful.  My SIL was visiting while my brother was doing some clean up and we got an invite up the road to one of the Monday sewing gals who has not been since the Covid lock down (pre-existing health).  We loaded Mom and some lawn chairs and enjoyed a piece of pie with ice cream out side with some much needed catch up chatter.

Have A Better Day

We have had some glorious weather and I have been enjoying it.  I'm in no hurry to work a project or finish a quilt.  November and December have always been my ME time months.  And with this crazy year, I want to make my days better.

I am slowly quilting my OMG project, but taking my time with no hurries or pressure.  I have the whole month to get it done - so be it.

And as many times I've told her 'no' (she knows that word), she gets close enough to touch it, but not lay right on it.  STINKER!!

Although the nice weather follows us into the weekend, I plan on making some butternut squash soup in the crockpot.  A better day meal.

Sharon

OMG - November 2020

I'll be using the OMG again to finish up a quilt - there are only three left on that pile. YEAH!!!  Please be sure to visit or join in the linky HERE.

I use OMG April to move this quilt to flimsy stage - and now to quilt it.  It's nice to see a project that is completed in the same year - how strange is that?

Monday Making

Over the rainy weekend I managed to get the Autumn Jubilee quilt assembled as far as I can.  I have no yardage that will work for the next two borders - shopping time.  BUT, I like that it is at least to this stage and it will join the pile of quilts to be finished off in 2021 - which is fast approaching.

I even managed to get the pink Cactus Blossom blocks set into their rows along with the setting sashings made.  Today I want to get this quilt into the flimsy stage.  I don't have yardage for the final border on this one either, but this one can 'marinade' and maybe something (older fabric) will come in purposely in a gifted bag of goodies.  It will wait it's turn for the big finish next year.

I have just three quilts to finish off that second huge tote of 'to be quilted' - my goal met for the year.  And I have that one tote left (with two new ones added to it) that will be cleared out next year.  I've even taken stock in what my 'theme' or motto will be for next year and is one of the reasons why I need to organize and move my sewing area to be more productive and inspire the creativity.

More rain, cold and even possible snow is on the horizone, so sew away!

Sharon
