Monday Making

Since I am still waiting on my big roll of batting, I will join in with Beth and do some small projects.

I have my Batik Chain Link quilt (from so long ago) under the machine, but I really have trouble handling Batik fabric for some reason.  I can only work one or two 'links' and then have to wash my hands and take a break - my hands break out just like I was handling wool.

So while on those breaks, I will play with this fun pile of the R/W/B scraps from those commission quilts.  Pulled some zips and will prep all the pieces for This Wristlet at Sew4Home.  I've made these before and they take a little time to prepare all the pieces, but then sew up very quickly for some great little bags.

What are you playing with this week?

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

Maybe you could wear Machinger's gloves while you quilt? I have a pair and I love them, although I'm not allergic to the batiks. I use them for the extra grip. But they might help you with the breakouts.

I don't care for the feel of Batiks. I don't mix them up in my Stash since they are usually the Bleeders in a quilt. I'm working on Binding and Borders this week.

I have issues with wool, too. Not batiks. I wonder if it is the chemicals in the batik dyes or batik making process.
Love the wristlet. I think my granddaughters would love them. Yes. Lots of pieces, prep work but good directions and should go together quickly. Could make two or three at the same time. THANK YOU so much for the link! I have it saved in my Favorites Folder. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your red, white and blue ones.

Your link quilt is sure pretty! Sorry to hear about working wth batiks, but those pretty zippers in those wristlets will keep you busy for awhile. Thanks for the link!

Oh boy what a shame those beautiful fabrics are not getting along with you very well. Did you try a pair of latex gloves when you quilt? That chain is so very pretty hope you get it done with out too much bother.

Do you think it's the dyes in the batiks? I used what is probably a batik for a binding. It was the stiffest fabric through which to pass a sewing needle. I could only work for a short time to hand sew the binding down and had to work in small increments. It was a royal pain. I hadn't thought about the fabric and commented to the lady who owns the LQS where I bought the fabric and she thought it probably was a batik and they are known for that. I would not be surprised if it's the dyes. We are each unique and have concerns with different products. Maybe as one person suggested gloves would help, if you like them and can use them. Some of us just don't like some of the fancy products and others embrace them. Hope your big roll of batting arrives soon.

I would think it might be the dyes in the batiks as well. I'm working on a ton of things...way too many!
