Christmas Quilt Along - part 2
I have a lot of new followers so I would like to welcome you all to a 're-visit' to part of my 'Welcome to VroomansQuilts' blog post. So many people are shocked when I tell them I live on Quilt Lane - here it is folks. When 911 emergency system went into our area, we wanted Vroomans' Lane, but that already existed - so Quilt Lane.
And we had to replace the old sign (in header painting) as one too many storms (and age) took it's toll. And we almost lost this one with the flooding from Irene - it was out in the field with most of the nuts and bolts torn from it. My nephew is in Iraq and his sister is in South Korea where her husband is stationed - thus some flowers and garlands are hanging.
So take a drive up our country lane to the farm house on the hill.
There are a lot small flower gardens all around the property. Unfortunately, this time of year not a lot of things are in bloom yet.
From the header painting you get the overview of the farm on the hill. But the lane brings you into the middle and this is the back of the main house. Bricks from Holland, foundation from a quarry on the farm, it is one of the original family homesteads. My great(many greats)grandfather bought the land tract from both the Iroquois Indians as well as the Queen of England and was head of the militia at the local fort under the command of General Washington.
Hope you enjoyed the 5 cent tour,
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

Oh I love this post!! I'm deep into genealogy and love the story about your ancestor! Your home is lovely and the drive is very inviting. Thank you for sharing it all with us today. Hugs.
Beautiful! Please show us the farm again in the fall.
Really nice. So upstate NY. And your sign is wonderful. If I get your way, it should be easy to spot.
What a great post - and I love Quilt Lane and your farmhouse! Does it really date back to 1780? Fascinating stuff!
Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful lane and home with us! So fun...quilt lane!
Well worth the 5 cents. You live in such a beautiful place. What a treat and right after breakfast! I might need to just grab a bunk and stay-awhile. Hehe. Love the Quilt Lane too.
How fascinating!!! I am so glad that you re-shared it with us - the newer followers.
What a lovely area to live and work. You must love it. Fascinating connection with England, too.
Beautiful....and I still get a chuckle out of the "Quilt Lane"!!
Wow - thanks for the tour Sharon!!! It's always so much fun for me to learn more about the friends I've made in blogland. I had no idea of all this history in your background, fueling your quilting life today - amazing!!! I want to live on Quilt Lane too! I have a friend who lives on Happy Street, but Quilt Lane is even better :*)
I loved the 5 cent tour! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful family history.
Your farm is just beautiful, Sharon!! I love the history behind it and the house is so grand!! How many sq. ft? It looks like a HOME not a House! Thanks for allowing us to visit.

Hi Sharon I really loved hearing the history of your farm and seeing all the beautiful pictures of your home. Do you live there on your home. Murray and I have always loved travelling all over New York State. Our last trip was to Catskills. We live in Ontario in a little town called Stratford. Blessings Sandra
Its lovely to hear about your farm and some of its history. Makes me feel a bit closer to you! Thank you, Sharon!
