FINISHING ORNAMENTS

I thought I would show you how I finish those small ornaments - perfect project these couple of days with our 'early' snow storm. Yes that was snow on the pumpkin, not frost!

Supplies: ornament - 3.5" square, 2 pieces of scrap batt 3.5" square (mine are a medium loft left from quilt trims), 2 pieces of backing fabric 2.5" x 3.5" folding one long side in 1/2" (I finger pressed, but you can iron), and one piece of thin ribbon cut 6"

First step: stack 2 batt pieces, ornament face up, fold ribbon in half and pin to center (leave 1/4" overhang from edge to be sure to catch secure in seam)

Second Step: place backging piece that has folded edge face down, lining up edges with ornament.

Third Step: place other backing piece face down, lining up edges with ornament and pin all in place.

Fourth Step: start on bottom edge and sew completely across, turn and start again from edge to edge - repeat all sides. Clip corners.

Fifth Step: turn and push out corners - I use an old chop stick. Sew your back seam with whip stitch or hem stitch or you can even use fabric glue if you don't like hand work.

Some of the finished ornaments. By doing this method, I don't have to stuff (evenly stuff) a tiny item - I use up my scraps - and my side seams are nice and straight (side hole turns make indentations) - and my back is nice and smooth.

I am working on some other Christmas projects, but can't share as they are for swaps and I know receivers are followers - gotta' keep a secret.
