Wake Up to Kona Blog Hop

Kona Goodness

Thank you Madame Samm - Sew We Quilt and Carol - Just Let Me Quilt for this fabulous blog hop.

Of course we can't forget the sponsors:

Amanda Murphy, author oColor Essentials

Robert Kaufman for those fabulous fabrics
and
Aurfil, whose threads keep us stitching.

I share today with these talented ladies:

I purchased a Kona 1/2 yard bundle called 'Tropical Sunset' (no I didn't use it all - wanted to be able to add to stash) and paired it with a Kona strip roll called 'Sand Castle' that was on my shelf.

I have wanted to make this block/quilt since it was demonstrated at one of our Quilt Guild meetings - the Twin Sister Block.  A 18" strip of the 'sand' and a 18"strip of the color.  I gave myself wiggle room for cutting and made my strips 19" long.  Stitch them together, press toward the dark and sub-cut into four 4.5" sections.  Then slice them corner to corner (use same corners) to make triangles.  Take the four light dominant triangles and form a pinwheel.  Do the same with the four dark dominant triangles.  Sew those units together for a 5.5" unfinished block.  Easy Peasy and so quick!

Of course you may not have the assistant I have when it comes time to quilt.
I just simply did a lot of stitch-in-the-ditch on this.

I used Kona White for sashing and Kona Black for corner stones and binding.
This will be my Guild donation quilt this Spring.

The backing is a new Conneting Threads extra wide backing (have enough for another baby quilt) and plays nicely with the front pattern.

I know this is a hop about solids, but it is also about color ----- so I have a give away of color.

A Robert Kaufman 'Fusions Texture Collection' roll up.  I will ship international, just be sure I have a way to contact you (most of my no-replys are those using Google +).   I will leave comments open until 10pm January 21st (remember the hop has added two more days) and announce the winner shortly after.

Thank you for stopping by,
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

Got focused on finishing a quilt and neglected to comment on your windmill block tutorial. Thanks for the picture demonstrating the trick to piece this block. Actually, it may not be called a windmill block, but it looks like a windmill to me. I haven't made a quilt with solid colors, yet. But it's not because i don't like them.
Beautiful fabric collection in you jelly roll drawing. Would make a beautiful quilt.
Hope you're feeling better. Stay warm.
