Something Old, Something New

Due to my unforseen accident and set-back, I missed posting/lining up of the finale of the ABC QAL with Blossom Heart Quilts.  I chose to put just A- Y into a quilt top - this is huge!

The 'Z' will be a 16" pillow to go with the quilt.

I wanted to use up left over - so pieced a back.....

and kept piecing - I did say it was a huge quilt.  Not sure now when this one will get quilted, but top, back, and batting are boxed and waiting for their turn.

Never too hot to Stitch!

When I saw this on Barbara's site I had to investigate and this is so going to work into my 'recovery' lounging time.  Please check the button out and visit as I think it is better explained there - or pop in HERE.

I don't have a lot of 'old', but sure I can find enough to play with.  And Something New - oh yes!!  With NewFO and all those other buttons.  And there is no reason why you can't combine some of these projects and buttons to work together.  One project just might fit into 5 catagories - see where my mind is at.

Now I didn't want to step on Barbara's NewFO, so asked her first.  I had so many reply about my outlook for NewFO into 2014 to include all those books, magazines, etc... that 'WE JUST HAVE TO HAVE'  - that it would be fun to grab a book and make that project we so wanted to.  And I can see this working so well with some of those other buttons - hint, hint...

So this is my old book that I just had to have - perfect with FQs which I love.  And they are all small projects so should work up quickly - maybe. It is all about starting, isn't it?

And this is the project I chose.  I do love tiny piecing.  I pulled the FQs from that gorgeous bundle (an RJR designer)

And I have no idea when or where this came from, but it needs to be played with.  I also want to join in with the Sunday Slow Stitching with Kathy, so I will combine these.  My Sundays are booked.

OK, now that I see this photo - the top tote has an old project, so I have my 'something old'.  And my other two projects for the month are in their respective totes with all supplies.

I will link up with Never Too Hot To Stitch for the Something Old/Something New.

The 'Let's Book It' button will be going on the sidebar - my first time making a button and grab it code (hope it works).  I have ordered these quilt barn pins that hold quilt charms (our Quilt Barn Trail committee is selling these as a fund raiser for our Quilt Barn Trail - you can see the story HERE).  Various quilt block charms are on their way, so once all is in place I will update with a true pin and charm for the month.  A linky will be the last day of the month - see, you can combine your linky posts to match all those buttons/projects, too!  You just need to share your book and progress on your project - and like NewFO and others, it's about the start, not the finish.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

I love the way your ABC quilt turned out. You did a great job with the blog button. At some point I'll probably join in but not this month since I already have my plans lined up. Keep warm. It is too cold for man or beast out there. Yesterday the kidlets insisted on going out to play in the snow and I think they lasted all of about 20 minutes before they had enough.

That's something I keep thinking I need to do, grab a book or magazine from the stacks I've collected and make a quilt. You could be the push I need.

You're going to be so busy that your recovery time will pass very quickly! I *love* the barn charm holder -- it's so sweet!! I like the idea of "Let's Book It" too! Great one!! Glad your alphabet quilt (and pillow?!) is all ready to head to quilting! Huge hugs!! :)

It's amazing how much you have going on at one time. I love the Apples for Sale stitchery; what a sweet image. Have fun sewing and mending.

Love the ABC quilt. Looking forward to seeing you cut into that collection of fat quarters and make some of the projects in the books. So much going on at your house. You are so organized. Hope your hip mends soon.

Fantastic idea, Sharon. I love it, and I will be joining in. I'm going to give this a shout out on my blog later today.

I have that Fat Quarter Quilting book, too - but have never made anything from it (yet) :)

Love your blog header!

Thanks for joining in with my linky party, glad to have you along.

I have quite a few quilting books but mostly I just use them for inspiration. In the nearly four years I've been quilting, I've not made a quilt from a pattern (although I have made two sampler quilts so had to follow instructions for making individual blocks)! I wanted to mention your linky party on my blog but I couldn't see the grab code -- is it just me?

I'm so glad you took the ball and rolled with it to get this going! I thought it an excellent idea when you first posted about it. I'll be adding that button to my sidebar (as soon as I remember how again - I have to rethink it every time, but it shouldn't be hard. I have two shelves of books from which to choose so I'll be looking at them this afternoon. What fun!

I love the "lets Book It" idea Sharon. I have been mulling it over since I read Barbara's post. So maybe I'll play with that for a while. It will fit in with Barbara's NewFO link party too.

oooo!! Superb linky idea! This can help me keep working on my Affairs of the Heart book project that keeps getting shoved aside and forgotten for many many months at a time! (Do we have to do a different book every month? I can't start a new book thing until September - but without looking, I already know 2 other books I'll be chomping at the bit to dive into for the linky at that time!!)

This sounds like a great idea and I think I will play. I can't get your button to show up on my blog though. It seems to be missing part of the code. I made one recently using Grab my Button. http://www.mycoolrealm.com/sandbox/gbgen/
It worked well.

The Let's Book It idea is great! While searching through ONE of my fabric closets, I found 13 jelly rolls. I have given them away as prizes, but never used one myself. I think I will pull out one of my Pam and Nicky Lintott jelly roll books to play with.

What a good idea, Sharon. I have been toying with something like it for awhile now. I should as I have over 200 books to use up. Got too much on my plate, but I plan to keep thinking about it so that I can do this later in the year. Like this so much, I'm putting the button on my blog to remind myself and let others know. Prayers for quick healing.

Sharon, I love this idea!!! I have so many books I've bought and then not touched.... nope, I'm not going to count them! Count me in - this will be fun to combine with Barbara's NewFO Challenge. I may have to make a few changes to my intended starts, but we knew that was going to happen anyway, right? :*D

Your ABC quilt turned out beautifully.

I like your idea of using some of those books we've all accumulated. I've already got a few quilts on my NewFO list that use some patterns from a couple of my books. I won't join in each month, but I'll pop in as appropriate.
