I would like to thank Madame Samm for spearheading (or is it pin heading?) this hop and a big thank you to Kristen for being our head cheerleader. Please be sure to visit these sites I am sharing the day with:
When I signed up for this hop I did a bit of a - duh- as I have a few pin cushions (lovingly made for me), but they are for looks - I use pin boxes. So I fell back on my childhood for inspiration.
When I signed up for this hop I did a bit of a - duh- as I have a few pin cushions (lovingly made for me), but they are for looks - I use pin boxes. So I fell back on my childhood for inspiration.
Yes, back in my youth and the 4-H program where we were taught a lot of hand work. We had to make our own pincushion to put in our (handmade) sewing box to bring to each meeting - with all of our supplies. So I am sharing this project with you - and the true size of these...........
Yes, soda bottle caps! The nice heavy, taller ones - which for some reason I have a few baggies of. First we need to make our own templates - I used poster board, but card stock or even a recycled cereal box will do - must be sturdy to handle the tracing. Our base template, You need to use your cap and trace the bottom - flip to it's side and trace around - then add a 1/4".
These are your three templates. From the bottom template you will need to trace on your fabric for eight (8) petals. One (1) of the largest template for the base. And the bottom with added 1/4" , you need one (1) for the flower center. Easy peasy and working right out of the scrap bin.
First you need to prep your petals. Like making prairie points, fold in half and press and then fold in half again, press. I used a small craft iron, so if you are using a large iron, be careful of your fingers!
Now pin your petals evenly around your base, right sides facing. There will be a little space between them, but this will not show when we baste and tighten up.
Use a heavy thread - I used quilting thread, but carpet or button hole thread will work well. Knot one end and just do a large baste just a little less than a 1/4" from the edge, catching those petals all the way around. You can see I managed three (3) stitches a petal and skipped the space inbetween.
Slowly pull your basting and spread the 'crinkling of the petals' evenly around until there is just room to insert the bottle cap.
Pull up tight so the baste edge pulls over the edge of the bottle cap. Knot your thread off while keeping your work tight - yes, this is a little hard the first time - but these are like potato chips, you can't make just one and you get better at this. Fluff your petals up and out.
You are going to need two of your templates for this step. Your template with the 1/4" seam for the flower center - trace onto your fabric (wrongside) and cut out. And you are going to need your bottom little template used for the petals.
Use a matching thread - I used a white so you can see - knot one end and run a basting stitch an 1/8" around from the edge.
Now insert your petal template and pull your basting tight and knot - don't cut thread.
Press on both sides...............
Remove your template and give another press to make sure nice and flat.
Just a tip - I turned my pincushion base upside down and stitched the flower center to prevent that blasted thread catching on each petal with each stitch.
Once you are about 1/2 way or even 3/4 around, add your stuffing. I like to use fiber fill as I am never sure some one may be allergic to nuts for the shell stuffing. And these little guys will stuff nicely with two cotton balls if you don't have stuffing. Finish stitching down the flower center and knot off. That's it!!
And like I said, they are like potato chips. These are for our quilt guild meeting as little gifts for participants in our summer sewing challenge - our interpretation of CHOCOLATE - a little flower cupcake pincushion and a little box of chocolates.
Don't like to work that small - how about a peanut butter jar lid? Use the same method to make your templates.
Or how about a lid off that spray starch can?
The peanut butter lid pincushion I used a steal wool pad wrapped in a thin layer of batt - something to use to sharpen my pins. And the spray lid I put some decorative stones in the bottom (left from my daughter's wedding) for some weight as this would be tippy - then some stuffing, then topped it with a steal wool pad wrapped in thin batt. So any lid can be recycled into a cute pincushion - I did find with the larger lid I needed to add another petal so you may need to adjust a little.
A fun project for your guild, or sewing group, or just as a little gift to tuck in a package.
As a thank you for sticking thru this long-winded post, I have a give away.
A jelly roll of 'Make Do and Mend' by Michele D'Amore for Benartex Fabrics.
I would love to hear what your favorite sewing notion is - new or old. Simply leave a comment, be sure I have a way to contact you (I had a huge amount of no-reply comments on the last hop) and I will ship anywhere. Comments open until midnight (est) Sept 17th and I will announce the winner (and contact them) on the 18th.
Enjoy the HOP,
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

How cute ! and so many ! They look good enough to eat sitting there on that plate ! Thanks for the tutorial, I will have to make some of these for gifts !
What a great tutorial for your pin cushions! Thank you for sharing.
Great tutorials! Your pins are so cute! Thanks!
Beautiful pinchusions, and so many!
Have a nice day!
"Like potatoe chips" -- too funny!!!
My favorite notion .... My 3.5 inch square ruler thing ... Could not have gotten through HST without her!
Your pincushions are awesome! Absolutely gorgeous and the tutorial is fantastic. Great way of recycling; thanks for sharing.
I want to make some of those cuties.
Unfortunately I can't tell you my fav notion, but would love a chance in your give away.
Cheers,
Jeanneke.
Cute pincushions, great to see how you made them... maybe I give it a go!
Great tutorial and really cute pincushions.
Your pincushions are sew cute. Thanks for the great tutorial and being part of this blog hop
Made some of these years ago. But that many? Never thought of it! Looks great! :D
Oops, forgot! My fav is my little free Ikea pencil, have it always with me. :)
Waouh! What a great idea to use all these caps for pin-cushions! Thanks for the tuto, already saved and from today on, I will collect all these caps, great X-mas presents!!!
Thanks a LOT!
Great tutorial and nice, little pincushions. My favorite notiona are my easy angle rulers, LOVE THEM!
Lovely pin cushions Sharon. How great does that collection look on the plate. Almost makes you want to eat one! LOL! Now, for my favourite notion! Most loved or most used? My most used is my quick unpick of course! LOL! My newest notion in the last year is my frixion pen. If I make a mistake when tracing out, I can carefully use the tip of the iron to remove it and trace it again properly. Thanks for the lovely giveaway Sharon. I haven't seen that range before. It's gorgeous.
That looks great! I must try that myself. Thank you for the great tutorial! I love the whole plate of them. It seems so indulgent...Where to put the pins this time. My favourite sewing notion? It has to be my thimble. I do most of my sewing by hand and feel naked without it. Mind you, I have been seen in a lot of places with the thimble still on my hand. Most embarrassing while I went through a customs check at the airport. Luckily the Gambian official seemed to think it had something to do with my wheelchair. I did not correct him!
Such creative idea! thanks for sharing
Wow, that are many pincushions! Nice job! I love it.
Oh Sharon those are awesome! I will definitely be making some of those. Though probably not as many as you!
Those look so cute all together! So many of them! My favorite sewing notion would have to be my special thimble. It took me a long time to find one I really like.
So cute and don't tell the others but I had the same idea, come and look on saturday.........
My favorite sewing notion is my quater inch sewing foot. I do a lot of machine piecing with my quilts and I am so happy I found this foot.
Your pincushions are so cute Sharon - I will be trying your design!
My favourite sewing notion is an old needlecase made by my daughter when she was at primary school!
thanks for sharing the tutorial on how to make the little flower pin cushions. They are adorable and a great gift idea for my sewing friends!
Hi sharon cute.pi.cushions...up here this in paducah there are similar ones that are selling for a
.small fortune .....very cute have a grrat day
I love vintage notions. I have some that belonged to my mother in law. I have an old tomato pin cushion that I don't use so it won't get destroyed.
Cute bottle cap pin cushions! They look so cute on your tray! Almost yummie! Thanks for the tutorial, I certainly will try one... or more.
My favorite sewing notion...wow, that's a hard one, I learned quilting through listing to others, so I got a lot of brilliant notions, let's pick one: the quarter inch sewing foot.
Thanks for sharing your creativity!
I think my favourite notion has to be my thimble. I just can't sew without it.
I would love to make those tiny pincushions, I can/will not do without my walkingfoot, loving the bloghop
I keep thinking of making some of these, and now with your superb tutorial...I so love photos...I just may have to get to it. My favourite sewing notion are cute little pins, the last set I bought had butterfly heads. Great hop...thanks for sharing!
Your pincushions are really cute cute!! We learned the one where you have the pockets around the outer edge to put spools of thread.
My favorite notion has to be my marking pens. I use them every time I sew. Of course I also use my seam ripper but he is definitely NOT my favorite tool. lol
Wow, your pincushions are so cute! Thanks for sharing. I don't know if you would call it a notion (maybe a tool) and it's not intended for sewing, but I am using a wallpaper seam roller in my sewing room. It's great for pressing while paper piecing and for getting seams to lie open when needed. No burned fingers from the iron!
Beautiful pincushions Sharon. My favourite sewing notion are my various rulers as they make cutting accurately so much easier.
Wow, so, so cute! Thanks so much for the tutorial.
You are crazy ambitious!
What a great use for caps! Thanks for the tutorial. The pincushions are so cute! My favorite notion is an old wooden stiletto that I've had for years. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
Now I have a plan for today (other than waiting for a repair guy), to make a beautiful pin cushin. I think I'll look for scraps to mimic a sunflower. Thank you so much for the very well done tutorial. ;-> My favorite sewing notion my little black featherweight (I hope that counts as a notion), I love the look of her, the calming sound when sewing and of course she's just sooo cute. Bless us all today and everyday. Thanks Sharon, great tutorial!
This pincushion is so cute! And your tutorial is so very well done. Thanks so much for the post. One of my favorite notions is a pair of long tweezers. They come in handy for lots of things, like trying to grasp a short bobbin thread.
Wonderful tutorial and cute pin cushions.
And Sharon how does your garden grow....fruitful of course....your collection of flowers are just so darn sweet.
I love the idea of the soda cap. I love my rulers.
gasuski@mac.com
What adorable pin cushions!! They are just so cute on that plate...I love them. Thanks for the tutorial too...and a giveaway....Wonderful
These are such adorable little pinnies. I have seen that style before but didn't know how to make it. Thanks for the instructions. My favorite notion is vintage needle books. I love the look of the old lithograph printing. I collect what I can find, but I especially love the Army Navy needle books the best, since I'm an Army wife.
They are adorable Sharon and thanks for the great tutorial !
They are really cute. I love pincushions and making them for friends too but I have to say that my all time favourite is a flower shaped magnet which I just drop my needles and pins onto. If I lose a needle or pin on my bed (which is where I hand sew) then I just wave it over the area until it jumps onto it! Thank you for a great giveaway too.
ks(dot)eyles(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk
Great pincushion....wish I was in your guild challenge! I think it is sew great when a thank you gift is provided for challenge participants. They always appreciate it. Thanks for the chance to win!
Those are sew cute! What a great idea for small pinkeeps. Love the idea about the steel wool!
Those are adorable and perfect for when you need just that little pincushion handy. I would have to say that my favorite sewing notion is my tiny little scissors.
Aww someone here is ADDICTED too to pin cushions ;) Can I say my pin cushions are my favorite notion?? well I did get a new seam ripper recently that's pretty neat it has a rubber cap and that is great for taking the loose threads away...
I love the tiny ones :)
What a great pincushion idea and so cute, too! Thanks for showing how you made them and how to use different lids...so clever. :O)
Very creative with the pin cushions and very pretty. babscorbitt@ gmail dot com
Wow, what a cute field of pinnie flowers! My favorite sewing notion is actually the seam ripper...can't live without mine. ;)
so fun - and so many of them :-) Thanks for the tutorial too.
What a healthy garden you have. They are adorable. Thanks so much for the tutorial. They look so much easier to make than I would have thought.Gonna have to give them a try. My favorite tool is a pair of tweezers that are about 12 - 14 inches long. Don't know where I acquired them but I use them for everything from picking up dropped pins to poking out corners to turning smallish things inside out.
Fantastic pincushions, thanks for sharing the pattern. My fav notion is the rotary cutter- so quick !
Thank you for this fun tutorial. Your pincushions are so sweet. My favorit notion is my ruler, 12"x6". Happy blog hop!
What a wonderful idea! These gems could be cranked out very quickly to make Christmas stocking stuffers. Beautiful! My favorite sewing notion is masking tape. I lay it on quilt sandwiches and stitch along each side when stitching cross hatch quilting patterns. It is faster than marking lines and the when the tape is removed after stitching, it leaves no residue behind.
Love your pinnies! I have an old jar lid from an antique canning jar. I had planned to just make a 'plain' pinnie with it, but I have a new idea thanks to you!!! My favorite sewing notion (which I no longer have, unfortunately) is a tape measure from my childhood. It was an elephant on a colorful stand. The tape measure was in the stand, and it retracted automatically. One of those neat things from the 1950's!!!
bostickrw@gmail.com
These are just adorable and all the work you went to to make so many! Thanks for sharing the instructions, I'm pretty sure I will making a lot of these in the future! :)
Sew Cute and a tut too! Thanks ever sew much for sharing both with us today. Those are sure cute little flowers I may have to make a few to have on hand for some of my sewing friends.
in stitches
Adorable pincushions... I can see how they might be addicting to make! My favorite notion is my rotating cutting mat which makes trimming less tedious.
Thank you for sharing your instructions; I am quite lazy about using a pin cushion and after reading a funny but serious story yesterday, I realize I need to. I make them all the time for my friends but have never made a cute one for myself. Now's the time. My most used notion is my stitch ripper, picking out my mistakes and as a steadying tool for small pieces going through the machine.
My favorite sewing notion is my walking foot for my sewing machine. Thanks for the great giveaway.
Unfortunately, my favorite is my seam ripper! We are VERY good friends. Thanks for a chance to win!
Love your little flowers pincushions!
My favorite notion is my new ruler... 3 inches by 18 inches. Great for trimming!
Susie
legato1958@aol.com
Love these pincushions. Definitely will have to make some as gifts. I collect sewing notions of all kinds. I guess my favorite has to be half doll pincushions, oh and the little scottie dog that's tail is a tape measure.
The pin cushions are multiplying like rabbits! I love making bottle cap pc's because of the nice, small size. Love the whole collection! Not sure about a favorite notion... seems like I use my little scissors more than any other notion... always clipping threads and keeping things neat. Thanks for sharing!
Great little pincushions. Those are addicting to make, huh? I use my thread clippers more than anything while I am sewing at my machine.
These are sooo fun! And the tutorial is perfect! What an awesome idea as a gift for the quilt guild. As for my favorite tool - the seam ripper: I use it for its regular purpose, plus to pull the bobbin thread up, to hold the end of a seam as it is going through the presser foot...
How adorable! I love zippers :) in bright colors!
These are just adorable! I am adding it to my "to do" wish list!! As for my favorite notion, I'd have to say my leather thimble. I am working on a hand sewing project and I would have very sore fingers without it! Oh and I've discovered those cheap readers from Walmart! Holy Cow, who knew my eyes were so bad! Well those little readers have made a world of difference. Who cares that my kids poke fun at how "old" I look when I wear them. hahaha
What a great idea using a lid. That makes them more sturdy and sit still, not to roll around. Thank you for the full tutorial. I am going to make one (or some) of them.
Your little pincushions are adorable. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing the tiny pincushions with us, and for the tutorial. I especially like that you showed how to use different size lids! That plate of tiny pincushions looks good enough to eat!
Those are sew cute! I like all the different sizes, too. What fun! My favorite sewing notion isn't a sewing notion at all. It is a seam roller, used for smoothing wall board seam tape. I use it to 'finger press' when I sew, and for paper piecing. Thanks for the chance, and love those pin cushions.
Your pincushions are so wonderful - I had finally convinced myself to stop saving all the little 'lids' thinking in the past they would make perfect little pincushions...oh dear...best start my collection over! LOL Thanks for sharing...great tute too!!!
Great use of recycling items and little fabric pieces.
My favorite tool is my rotary cutter. Can not imagine quilting without it.
Thanks for a chance at your give away.
Sharon, these are adorable! I think my favorite notion is going to be one of these....I just finished off a jar of peanut butter! Hehee! I'm bookmarking this and will make it! Thanks for a great tut!
Those are the cutest! Great gift idea!
My fav notion would be a pincushion given to me by a good friend made out of an old metal jello mold:) Too cute! I use it every day!
I LOVE these little pin cushions! Thanks for inspiring me. I can see these as great Christmas presents for quilting friends.
My favorite notion is my glue stick! You'd be surprised how many uses I find for it in my sewing and quilting!
Cute.... thanks for the effort of posting details!!!
Those are adorable, I'm going to give them a try right away. Thanks for the tutorial and for being such a great blogging friend.
Thank you for sharing your pincushions and the tutorial! They are all so charming.
My favorite notion is a magnet with light on the end of a wand - that pulls out to make it longer. I seem to drop pins and needles & with the magnet/light, can locate them before i get out of the sewing area.
Enjoy the day
I have a soft spot for pin cushions! love the tut!! thank you. my fav notion? hmmm, I have so many. but I would have to say my frixion pen. LOVE it!!! thanks for the chance.....
HELLO,love my scissors and could not work without them! Thanks for your Post today and sharing a great giveaway!
msstitcher1948@yahoo.com
These are sew very adorable and practical. Isn't it wonderful skills used to be taught to us. Great hop...thank you.
These are so cute! I may make some of these for my next retreat as a little gift to everyone. Love it!
hulseybg at gmail dot com
Your plate of little posies is so adorable. Good enough to eat. I have made dozens of finger pin cushions with lace instead of petals and a round elastic looped through the bottom of the cap (2 holes are drilled in the cap as a first step). I am going to make myself a finger cushion to match a full sized flower pin cushion I made last year. Thanks for the ideas.
Other then chocolate my favorite notion is....my Frixion pen or my Clover clips ...both I use everyday...the chocolate a bit more often then I should ! LOL
Hi Sharon!
Thanks for hosting the giveaway. Your pin cushions are so cute. I tried making cushions from bottle caps but mine didn't quite turn out, hahahaha.
Right now my favorite notion is my Kwik Klip safety pin closer. I just finished layering a XL twin quilt and boy my fingers were happy I had it. I forgot to use it in the beginning but remembered before I was too far in.
I have to make one of your pincushions with the steel wool and pebbles; good ideas. My favorite notion are Wiss snips; I keep them at the sewing machine and can clip the threads very close without damage. Only issue is the tips are very sharp and I've stuck myself once or twice.
Very cute pin cushions! My favorite notion is the Clover seam ripper. It sharp and fits your hand really well. Thanks for the chance on your lovely giveaway!
Oh wow, a whote plate of pincushions, very nice!
Thanks for a great tutorial. I love the mini cushions for gifts! Great idea. I don't know how we worked without rotary cutters in the good old days. lol
Just lovely! Thank you for the tutorial!! My favorite sewing notion is my mini-scissors... perfect for clipping threads and sewing on the go!
A fantastic tutorial that I will use, for sure. I was thinking the other day how much I like using starch. It is a sewing pantry staple for me. Thanks for the giveaway. Love your little pin cushions.
I love those little pin cushions!! Great job on the tutorial. My favorite notion is scissors and a retractable clip. That way I don't drop the scissors and they are always where I need them.
Happy quilting,
Shelia
Great pincushions, and a clever idea.
My favorite notion is my sharp little seam ripper. If they aren't sharp, they don't do it! So I replace it every so often.
Cheers

How absolutely neat. Thx for the tut also.
Favorite sewing notion..hmm. lanyard with a pincushion/scissors holder. I won it in a giveaway. Love your pincushions. Thanks for sharing and for the tutorial. vickise at gmail dot com
Those are so cute!! I do love pin cushions a lot.
smjohns63 at yahoo dot com
those are sooo cute! I agree, they will be like potato chips - I won't be able to stop!
Those are all so cute. Thanks for showing how you made them as I have some caps that I was saving to make the pin cushions but couldn't remember how to do them. My favorite notion is my rotary cutter. I also have a sock darner that is very old that I just use as a decoration.
WOW!! Those are really cute..You are so creative.. My favorite tool is the seam ripper. I couldn't do without it. Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial today. My family is really going to think I am crazy when I start collecting bottle caps...
Very pretty little flower pin cushions. My favorite notion is a very small size crochet hook. It is prefect for pulling thread through or help tying a knot. It can be used so many ways.
Lovely tutorial. I think my favorite sewing tool is the rotary cutter.
Hi! Thanks for the giveaway! My favourite notion is my creative grids 4.5 x 12.5 in ruler. I have a few of them and I love them all!
Take care, Leslie
Hi! Thanks for the giveaway! My favourite notion is my creative grids 4.5 x 12.5 in ruler. I have a few of them and I love them all!
Take care, Leslie
What a nice little gift idea. My favorite sewing notion would be my fabric pencil from connecting threads. I have the white and dark lead which makes quilting so much easier. Thanks for having a give away.
Love, love your pop cap pincushions. I don't know if I am brave enough to try one that small!
Sew cute! Someday I want to make a bottle cap pin cushion as they are darling and versatile. Thanks for sharing!
Your pincushions are so cute! I will have to try your tute and make some for myself. Right now my favorite notion is a bobbin storage box I found at Joann's. The bobbin snuggles down in the space and won't unravel, etc. What makes it particularly nice is that it has a cover that keeps the bobbins dust free!
Love your tinny, tiny pincushions. Great tutorial!!
My favorite notion is my long curved-tipped tweezers. I use them for everything from threading a difficult needle to cleaning my machine.
Right now I would have to say my favorite sewing notion is my needle threader. I used to think that it was strange when my Mom asked me to thread her machine or needles for her. I don't think it strange at all anymore! Without a needle threader I would probably not be sewing!
I remember making these in home ec in tenth grade! Oh my, that was a while ago. :) My favorite notion is a recent find...my plastic tomato thread holder that I got when I bought two tomatoes at the market. blessings, marlene
Wow, you have quite a bunch of cuter pincushions,,,love them all grouped together.
Well those little pincushions are about the cutest thing ever! What a great idea for a gift.
My favorite notion is my seam ripper. It belonged to my grandma and it has a pair of tweezers and also a needle-threader attachment. Quite the handy dandy gadget. :)
What a cute idea for little gifts. I like to use a small pin cushion when I do embroidery at night in my comfy chair. My favorite tool is the rotary cutter. Mine is the ergonomic Martelli.
You are quite industrious! Wish I belonged to your guild!! The pincushions are just delightful! And thanks for the great tutorial...I could make my own if I want right?? My favorite notion at the moment is my Karen Kay Buckley scissors, with the serrated edge, cuts like dream! Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!
My favorite tool is the circle maker attachment. Such a great and fast way to make circles. Your pincushions are adorable.
My favorite notion is my Combi-Cut seam ripper/tweezers. I love how sharp the seam ripper is and that it's thin enough to get under any tiny stitch but still strong enough to do the job well.
Thanks for your tutorial on the pinnies. Love them all!
How cool they all look sitting so pretty on the plate! Our favourite tool will always be the stitch unpick - need it so often!
Gorgeous pin cushions. thanks so much for sharing. My favourite tool is my seam ripper. i have LOTS of them.
Love the pincushions. I can't believe how many you made! My favorite notions are my rotary cutting mat and my June Taylor Shape Cut Pro ruler. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.
Great idea and practical.
Just the cutest - and you kind of got carried away, right? Love them all. I like the trick of using cotton balls for stuffing such little pin cushions. Clever! Thanks for showing everying - I enjoyed it all!
You have really been busy with pincushions! I thought I was doing good to make 3! Yours are cute. My favorite notion would be my G4W 4" Ginger scissors that have large finger holes for my large fingers.
Your little pincushions are the cutest. I love how easy they are to make and definitely want to make one-or two, or maybe a whole bunch like you. They would make great gifts to give to others. Thank you for sharing. My favorite notion is my rotary cutter.
I love your pincushions and suggestions of other items use for making them. My favorite notion is also my rotary cutter.
Oh, Sharon - These little pincusions are nothing else than stinkin' cute!! And that plate full for your Guild is wonderful!!
I suppose this isn't actually a notion but I have my Grandma's wooden sewing stand. I feel a bit guilty when I know how much 'stuff' I have to sew with and she could get all hers in that small stand!! Thank you so much for the tut - the pincushions are adorable and I will be making some of the all the sizes but the small ones are just toooo cute!!
Nice pin cushions! My favorite notion is the seam ripper. It is the most useful!
I probably shouldn't admit it, but the one notion I can't get through the day without is my seam ripper.
I love the way all of the little pin cushions look on the plate.
Thanks for sharing the tutorial.
Super cute!!
They are just adorable but what patience you must have to work on such a small size. Thanks for sharing and doing the tutorial
Thank you for sharing a wonderful tutorial on such cute pinchusions. My favorite notion of course is my seam ripper. I think we are attached.
That's a lot of pinnies! Cute ones, too! I gotta go with my seam ripper too...can't imagine how much worse that job would be without one.
Love to repurpose items and this is such a great, and useful, idea! Thanks for the tutorial...love those little pincushions!!! My favorite notion are Pin Moors..no more getting 'stuck' with pins :)
I can't wait to make about a million of those. They are so cute!!!! I love them. I need to make them for my quilt group. Wow it is so hard to pick just one. I am picking my rotory cutter. I know that I can do all of the cutting with scissors. But I don't wanna!!! HA HA. Thank goodness for the rotory cutter. Oh and the ruler too!!!
Terrific pin cushion!
Hi Sharon,
Sorry I am so late to the hop. I love these little pincushions. I can't wait to try your tutorial and thank you for taking the time to write it up. My fav sewing notion is a ring pincushion or I call them a Needle Park. Thanks for a chance at the giveaway.
xo jan@sewandsowfarm
Thank you for the tutorial for these adorable pincushions! I think I will make a few. anglanouette at gmail dot com
Thanks for the tutorial. I love your little pincushions. My favorite notion is my seam ripper which I need way too often. I have several, including an electric one that makes quick work of those looong oops!
These are adorable. Love the different sizes. Great tutorial. I still use my old tomato pin cushion with the little "sharpener". Your idea of steal wool inspires me to make one. My "beam n read" is my favorite sewing notion. Old eyes need lots of help!
Wow, those are great. so cute.
I am in love with your itty bitty picushions!! But using a steel wool pad is genius!! Why have I not read or thought about that idea?!
My favorite notion s are my Frixion pens and my 8"x 21" ruler
Gmama Jane
I love my pin box. It is a spice container with a magnet on the bottom. Helps the pins stay in!
these are so adorable and you are so creative. Thanks for the how to.
My favorite tool is my (oh shoot, senior moment) oh yes, my rotary cutter.
quilting (dash) lady (at) Comcast (dot) net
Wow, you sure made a boatload of pin cushions. They are all beautiful. Love the picture with all of them on a plate. My favorite notion would have to be Wonder Clips.
What a cute idea! They look so neat together..like a flower garden!
My favorite notion is a seam ripper that I've had for a long time.
Wow you made so many! Great tutorial too. Thanks for sharing, and for the giveaway!
OMG those are so tiny! Especially with the petals! I make cupcake ring-pincushions with those bottle caps, and those are already really fickle to make lol, but this? Wow and so adorable!
How fun are those. Your so right about them being like potato chips. Love the steel wool idea!
What a wonderful project, small things are so great. I love how much they look like sunflowers, and will be making a batch here soon! Thank you! My favorite notion today is my seam ripper, just can't get by without it.

Well, my goodness, if those aren't just the cutest little pincushions I've ever seen!!! I'm going to have to try my hand at a few of those :*) As you pointed out, they would make such lovely gifts!
Let's see, my favorite notion.... right now I would say it is my Fons & Porter Glue Stick. I use it to make sure my critical seams stay together until they are stitched, hold down pesky applique pieces that won't behave, hold my binding in place for machine stitching.... Oh my - the list is endless!!!
Those are ADORABLE!! My favorite gadget is my rotary cutter -- I think I am the last person in the universe to have one, and I LOVE it! :)
I didn't think that your post was long-winded at all! VERY cute pin cushion and as always, great tutorial.
my favorite...of EVERYthing...is a stiletto,

I started to post a TY for your wonderful pin cushions and amazing tutorial early on Tuesday morning - I mean EARLY and got side tracked and am just getting back to the hop. I love your pin cushions. They are absolutely amazing and thanks for the tutorial. I have it bookmarked. I was a 4-Her for sometime, too. I did many of the cooking and some of the sewing projects and then got interested in other things. It wasn't "cool" to be in 4-H after about 7th grade where I lived - even in rural WV. My brothers did it later because they raised sheep. Maybe it was because I was the only girl in my grade in that community and school up through 5th grade. I remember we had a wonderful recipe for cinnamon rolls. I am visiting my daughter in another state and am enjoying myself immensely with two of my grandboys. I will be trying this recipe for pin cushions as soon as I can home. It is so flexible for any size lid. Great for recycling and I love that you used the stones in the bottom for weight - great idea! You are very creative. As to my favorite sewing notion. I have a seam ripper that my brother made me from a kit. It is the sharpest seam ripper I have ever had. You turn the seam ripper around and it fits in the handle, so you don't ever lose the top (your cover) and the wooden handle is made from wood from his wife's dad's property which was right across from the one-room school my brother and I attended. He had used all the wood from our home property that he had. It just showed up in my mail box earlier this year for no particular event. You are very generous with your give away and sharing your creativity. Thank you for participating.
Couldn't do without my rotary cutter. Love your little pin cushions.
Your little pincushions are adorable. Thanks for sharing how to make them. My favorite notion is my glass head pins...I never have to worry about anything melting.
I love your pincushions!
My favorite notion is my mom's well worn thimble!

What adorable pin cushions and a great tutorial too - these are such a good idea for a club. Sorry I was late visiting!
Wow Sharon I just love that idea and they turned out really adorable. You certainly went all out this time making that huge pile of pin cushions. I'm sure your guild members will really appreciate them.
My favorite notion? Well if I have to pick just one it would be my Fons and Porter 120" tape measure. I use it so much that I should just attach it to my clothing while I'm in my studio. Thanks for the chance to win.
Adorable all grouped together for the picture. I'm afraid I would be in the peanut butter lid group---bigger the better, LOL.
Fav notion?? My clover ripper maybe but my mind went first to a green glass open container that my grandmother told me my great-grandmom used for HER pins. I keep it on the cutting/pressing table area and remember them both that way.
Thanks Sharon for the tutorial. It is so cute. :)
My favorite sewing notion is my Enlarging Glasses. I love to do hand work and these help me to see what I am going.
Ah finally getting to the hop! I really love this idea! Thanks for giving such clear instructions! These are too cute!
Thanks for the tutorial and the give away. Love the little pincushions a lot but the big one is handier I think.
Warm regrads from Holland,
Marga♥
Very cute pincushions, my favorite notion is my binding ruler. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Sharon,
your small pincushions are so cute, thanks for sharing the tutorial.
My most important notion is my seamripper, and the one from clover is the best.
Thanks for the chance ☺
