Challenge #4 is 'Wish Upon a Star' - rules were:
- Your project must include at least one star. It can be a traditional star block, an appliquéd star, a star in the embellishments or quilting…..Use your imagination. More stars are fine, but there must be at least one.
- Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements: Include patchwork - Include appliqué - Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
Another challenge was working with ORANGE - not my favorite color, but I wanted to pull the colors from that little bit of fabric as well as challenge myself to use just scraps. It also has a metalic to it so I wanted to add a little more metalic fabric into the piece - I don't have a lot of that. This is the StarFlower quilt block. I love scraps, so had lots of w/w, beige, lites 2" squares in my scrap barrel to make the center. The leaves are a teal metalic fabric - just enough to squeek two and have enough for binding. Rick-Rack and buttons and floss - have lots of that to play with.
I had just enough of the orange to piece up the borders as well as fit the inspirational StarFlower fabric into a border. Framed up with the rest of the metalic teal fabric for binding. My 'Wish Upon a Star' is a starflower 15.5" x 17" wallhanging that will help me wish for Spring to please come!
And just enough of this Lori Holt 'Happy Cottage' pretty daisy flower print for the back - daisies always remind me of lots of little stars floating in the night sky. And two 3.5" scrap squares folded and inset into the corners for a dowel hanger. Yes, the batting - 80-20 cotton/poly batt - was two pieces fused together to make just enough! This is my monthly Christmas project for CTTY.
I'm enjoying these Project Quilting Challenges with PersimonDreams - purhaps you'd like to challenge yourself.

I love your little wall hanging. The star flower block is cute and your fabrics are lovely. I always like making things from my own stash or scraps, it's so satisfying. The project quilt challenge is fun but unfortunately I didn't join in with this challenge as I was bogged down with work.
Sharon this is fantastic, well done,i like the orange.xx
This is so cute! You definitely were up for the challenge. So neat to see your perfect little embellishments...the buttons and ricrac are perfect for the project!
I love the way you think "outside the box", using the star to make a flower is such a cute idea and it turned out so nice.
I love how you take little bits of things and turn them into great projects. I am not an orange fan but it looks wonderful as a star flower.
Great interpretation! A perfect combination of the colors and details. Really great job.
Sew cute, Sharon...vibrant colors and scrappy backgrounds...just my favorite combinations.
Very creative and it looks fabulous too.
Love your star flower!
very pretty! :D
great job! I love it - your star flower is fabulous!
Beautiful work Sharon and I love the use of the rick-rack! Fun back too!
Oh that is wonderful! What a great job!
So pretty. The brightness of the orange just has to help cheer you up on the dreary days. I too am wishing for spring.
Beautiful wall hanging, Sharon. I wasn't an orange color fan until I playing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Now when I look at orange I think of Orange Sherbet and Orange Cream Popsicles from my childhood. Your Star Flower look yummy :p
It'as gorgeous Sharon. I don't usually do "orange" either but this looks fantastic! :)
Very clever design - I really like the way you made your flower - great use of diamonds and that stem is darling. All of your 'use up scraps' played so nicely together and made a super cute project that makes a perfect gift!
Your wallhanging is beautiful. I love the pretty colors and star block. Thanks for linking up with CTTY. Hope to see you next month.
I just love this piece. We had a similar challenge in our guild and we had to have orange/purple. I ended up using lavender and peach and it was so much fun to see all the combinations everyone came up with. Love the way you did the back too!
What a beautiful wall-hanging Sharon, I'm sure the new owner will love it!
