May For Me - Day 14

Since my partner has received her quilt, I can show it now. I am really enjoying the Doll Quilt Swap. Sher requested a quilt for her Grand Neice for her new teddy in blues. So another smaller take on the Swoon block with some fussy cut teddies.

And you can't let a special request go un-rewarded. I have made a little doll to go with each quilt sent. So I made Sher a doll - and what dollie doesn't deserve a quilt, so a mini made with the scraps from her grand neice's quilt.

This was my other May quilt - I volunteered to 'double duty' if needed. This is still traveling to Germany so only showing a partial photo as I don't know if Leonie visits my blog. Oh, I hope it gets there safely and soon.

These blocks are for playing with Marcia's Zig Zag Quilt Challenge. This goes so quickly - and I rummaged around in my scrap bins to pull fabrics together. And I used my 3.5" square ruler rather than trim to a 3.25" - just easier for me as I go brain dead with odd measurements. And I am,also, using this for my Color Challenge and FMQ Challenge. **linking up with Patchwork Times on the wall Monday**

This week's 'Summertime Adventures' over at Clover & Violet was an 'out and about' project. They had samples of some little bags for traveling with children. Well, I have a (senior)friend who travels with her 'child' - her little Cock-A-Poo. So I made a little bag for carrying treats, pooh bag, training clicker can snap on the side as well as a clip to attach to her belt or purse, and a double side pocket to carry ID/money while at the dog park. I used a laminate (a first for me) for the lining so the bag can be easily cleaned.

Don't forget it's a check-in day with HANDS2HELP over at Sarah's. You still can get a quilt finished. These are the two quilts I sent off to Em's Scrapbag for Happy Chemo. I have two quilts to mail out to Sarah tomorrow now that they have their new space to store them. Final link up is May 28th for prizes - and there are lots - and quilts should BE AT at their final destinations BY June 8th.

WEEK 3 GIVE AWAY

I have another twin pack of fun. 'Reunion' by Sweetwater and 'Hello Luscious' by Basic Grey. As a comment, I would love to hear how you spent your Mother's Day. Myself, I spent part of the day sewing and part outside in the sunshine prepping flower beds. Then my brother, SIL, sister, Mom and I went out to dinner - Chinese buffet. Then home to cuddle with my furries as they were mad I had left them alone too long.

CLOSING THOUGHT

With frail blue wings.
The happy earth looks at the sky
And sings."

As always, lovely projects ou share. Of course I love the bright and colorful one the most.

For Mother's Day I got to spend it working on packing up my MILs house. She is moving in a week to a smaller place. Unfortunately she is a pack rat so although we made a dent, there is still a long way to go. Hot dogs and deli salads were the big meal. I'll get a nice dinner sometime after she settles.

I need to go get those back patterns by clover and violet. I really want to learn to sew in zippers. I have a few zipper patterns that I've done nothing with.

I also am just so intrigued by the doll quilt swap. I don't do swaps but that is one that I really really would like to do.

For Mothers Day, it was just a normal Sunday, but the day before I spent with my daughter. Such a fun mother-daughter time!

I was sick with a cold so we spent most of the day cuddling in bed. My husband took me to breakfast and to dinner even though I felt horirible.

That Swoon block doll quilt is so adorable and I love the little dolls you made to go with both of the quilts. The cross stitch label is a fantastic idea! The first time I've seen that. I spent Mother's day with my girls and little Smiles. Had some time in the sewing room, in the garden and on a bike ride. Was able to get in 12 miles which was wonderful. Sounds like you had a great mothers' day :)

Ooooohhhhh - I love Reunion fabric!!!! Thanks so much for the chance to win! I was lucky enough to have my college-aged son home, so the whole family celebrated all day. I chose to celebrate part of the day with a mice, uninterrupted nap (funny how many of us choose sleep as our reward - part of being a mom, I guess!). I finished up a tiny sewing project and had a nice long phone conversation with my mom. Good day!!!

I spent Mother's Day with both of my sons. My youngest(10 years old with Down syndrome) took me to Walmart and bought me a wrestling DVD because that's what he said I wanted. LOL!! I spent the rest of the day with my oldest son. He let me help paint his bathroom and hang drywall. I really did enjoy my day with my sons!!!!

Sharon your May doll swap quilt is just darling! You do such lovely, lovely work!! The little bag is cute, too. What did you think of using the laminate? Did it sew easily? I've been thinking about doing a bag project with it. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts! Have a GREAT week! :)

Based on the lack of me matching only 1 of the words from all four sites in the past 5 days I don't think I'll be buying any lottery tickets anytime soon. LOL Oh well, maybe Mr Random Generator is making me wait for the big one. ha

Ooh Mother's Day was wonderful. My amazing husband told me to make a menu of whatever I wanted and to give him the grocery list. He went shopping at 11pm Sat night for the food we needed and then cooked all the recipes I had printed for him from my recipe collection I have on my computer. AND he did every single one of the dishes as he went along so the kitchen was clean too. Each time I tried to go in to help him he kicked me out of my kitchen and told me I was not allowed to work at all. (Actually he did say I could make the dessert because it was this amazing recipe I found 2 yrs ago for Coconut Cream Pie that I have been craving since November and kept forgetting to get the ingredients for. Sadly, I forgot after getting halfway done that the filling had to refrigerate for an hour but the pies when completed needed to be refrigerated for 24 hrs. :( Had to go to the alternate recipe of Strawberry Trifle instead.)

We had a pasta/tuna salad, my 'famous' baked beans,
a new steak marinade recipe I found in my recipes folder that looked good and I'd never used yet (and yes it was awesome/he even agreed although he was a bit reserved on using it as it was a strange marinade but OMG was it good!)
Rhodes dinner rolls (he surprised me and made these since we had them in the freezer but I did not have those on the menu. He knows how much I love them though)

AND he even did all the laundry between the cooking too.
OH and when he came home from the grocery store about midnight he told me to stay in my sewing room and not come out. That was because he was busy putting the roses he bought while shopping into one of my vases to surprise me. :)

At least I am luckier in love than I am at Bingo. LOL

Oops, I forgot to mention he also made a great breakfast casserole egg/french bread recipe and orange juice to drink too.

The day before Mother's Day my son and DIL had a cookout for me. It was really nice.
On Mother's Day we went to church, out to eat and then just came home and relaxed which was very nice too.
The swoon quilt is really pretty, so is the doll quilt. Love blue and yellow together.
Your zig zag blocks are going to be so great in those colors. Can't wait to see it put together. Wish I had time to play along.

I'm awestruck, looking at the dollie...you make those, too? You are a wonder. :) It's such a sweet thing, the doll and the little quilt for her. Wow.
On the other hand, I am in love with your zigzag prep - love those brights! Making a zipper pouch from laminate is on my list for this year. Thanks for the chance to win - those are lovely charm packs!
Mother's Day was all about my mom-in-law. We visited and stayed for quite a while. We gave her a book that had questions for her to answer about herself, and enjoyed listening to her stories...now if she will just write them down - I can't remember all of them!! We had fun, and I think she did, too.

I did pretty much the same on Mothers Day as I do every day....but that suits me just fine....I'm happiest when reading blogs, chatting with online friends (usually to do with sewing) on FB and sewing, all in my pj's of course...to me, that's just a perfect day!

You've been very busy. How did you like sewing on the laminate for that darling bag?
The doll quilt is so precious and how wonderful of you to include a little dollie to go with each quilt.
My Mother's Day was very relaxing and quiet. It was spent at home with DH and I was able to get a full afternoon of stitching in. We had barbecued shrimp for dinner - YUM!

We had two Mother's Day events. Saturday cookout by my brother and Sunday gathering with my sister. Both were large gatherings as in-laws and extended family were there. So, this weekend saw all of my siblings, nieces, nephews and grandnieces. This was very nice as is your giveaway.

I spent my mother's day with my family. My kids made me breakfast, I took my son to band (and got my walk in), then to my mom's for lunch. Then had my MIL over for dinner! And after dinner, took my kids outside to practice Highland dance and the Bagpipes....

Love, love, love the little teddy bear quilt! :D

My Mother's Day was quite relaxing. I got to sleep in and then I didn't do anything all day except read my book and do a little sewing. Everyone waited on me hand and foot and it was marvelous!

I had a lovely Mother's Day. My daughter and I took the train into NYC and attended Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral. The American Girl Doll store is near the Cathedral so we took a quick peek inside and then had delicious Thai food for lunch. We visited the observation deck of the Empire State building and stopped for gelato on the way back to Grand Central Station. My pedometer recorded 4.88 miles and my old body felt every last inch of them. I was exhausted by the time we got home.

Lots of fun things to see. Love the doll quilts. Mother's Day was quiet -- church to sing in the choir, lunch out at a Mexican restaurant and then reading on the couch. And, a bit of sewing thrown in also.

What a cute blue teddy quilt, doll and dolly mini quilt. So tiny! I rested on Mother's Day. I've been going in high speed, both trying to get some sewing stuff done, and getting ready for youngest son's graduation and family coming in (and a party). I'm worn out, and I still have more than a week before family start arriving.
