When Marian over at Seams To Be Sew (be sure to visit her for the RaffleCopter give aways during the hop) proposed this Hop it went thru several names and ideas until it was decided to express what we are 'nuts' about with Valentine's Day. Since I am single, kids are grown, grand kids - well nuts about them all the time. So what would it be?
If anyone who knows me, I am nuts about scraps and being challenged to use them. And, I have a passion for charity work. But how does that play with Valentine's Day?
Well it was staring at me the whole time! Our quilt guild does several charity events thru the year and one is making placemats for our local Meals on Wheels. This year we arranged to deliver them for the special Valentine's Day dinner.
But we decided rather than a 'heart' theme, to make them something that could be enjoyed thru the year. And scraps were paired, cut, assembled, and readied for quilting.
Not an exciting picture, but to me it was exciting that I had a useful way to clear out the batting 'cut-offs' from quilts.
I used the very simple pillow method of putting these together. Once turned , I prefer to hand stitch the opening closed.
And using my walking foot, just two rounds of quilting around the outer borders. Hope someone enjoys some pretty oriental flowers and butterflies.
Strip piecing of pretzels, pizza, and peanuts - has to be a snack lover. And patchwork of some pasta, recipes, and Italian map fabrics for something fun.
Some wildlife strips in a 'wood' frame and horses free to roam (reminds me of the wild mustangs).
A couple of left over seaside panels - hope these all bring joy to their recepients. Our next guild meeting is Tuesday and it will be fun to see what everyone has to contribute. And lucky me, I get to deliver them all to the Senior Center.

ReplyDeleteMy father delivered meals on wheels when he retired, then years later got the meals himself. So I know sometimes the meals on wheels folks are the only visitors these people see during the week. What a nice thing to add to their meal and what a comfort to them! I too have been scrap sewing.
How does it get so out of control? Spider web quilt, not a dent….
Scrap strips on rope rug, only a slight change in the ” one ” box.
Now I am adding a scrap piano key border to the spider web and found an entire gallon zip lock of triangles that had a note in it that said ” add 2″ strips for flying geese” so I started that using the scrap box to find the strips. Still I am pulling from box one.

They give a quilt to each family who checks in; some are simple fleece quilts, others are pieced lap quilts, some are floor quilts to set babies down on, but all bring a message of comfort.
