Oh, Scrap and Slow Stitching

The second bag of scraps had a lot of skinnies - some went into the string block bin and the others I used for a project out of the Miniature Quilts magazine.  Strattas of 1" strips which not only produced the larger pieces, but rather than throw away the ends and extras away, I get a bonus project with them.

I'd show you the book project, but someone decided this was a great place to take a nap.  I had some unexpected company, so Moe got his nap in while I had a lovely break.  Sewing really skinny strips takes a lot of concentration!

I did manage to get the larger blocks into the flimsy stage - the black Kona is from my stash - hey there is a whole bolt of it, so use it.  The smaller blocks will be worked up into a 3 x 4 setting and skinnier borders, but basically the same idea.

The small one will wait for Monday's play date and I will sort the rest of the little treasures from that bag, not sure there is enough of anything for another project in the book.  Either just some random small blocks or chopping down into my scrap user system.

The animal cross stitch piece is at the point of needing those missing floss colors, so another project for Slow Sunday Stitching is needed.

Another piece that got tucked away.  I checked all the floss colors and I am missing one - a color also missing from the other project.  So this will be my slow time today - maybe I can find an old movie to watch (listen to), too.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

  1. your scraps have gone together to make a lovely quilt, best of luck with the cross stitching, afraid that is one form of stitching that drives me cross eyed. My embroidery love is hardanger

  3. The quilt looks great and the black is the perfect setting. Poor Moe always gets the bad rap for his choices of sleeping spots.

  6. Oh how the scraps never end! One project leads to another "bonus" and so we sew on and on. Enjoy your scraps. I think they are the best part.

  12. I really like your string blocks and how you put them together for the mini! Are they pieced on a foundation? I would love to try some like yours.

  22. Your skinny strips went together well with the black Kona. I really like it. I have a cross stitch I started back when my daughter was a baby. Haven't gotten far and it's with yarn. So the yarn is old and breaking now. Bah hum bug. Yours looks very nice.
