Remembering

For all the Dad's - Happy Father's Day. I would like to share my Dad.

He was always pencil sketching. Places he had been, things he had done, a few people (not good with people), experiences. This is our old barn that is the State Landmark - First Courthouse.

I don't remember him using color wash - but some pieces were found when clearing his things and given to us at Christmas. This is how we camped - yes, we really roughed it and this is how I taught my kid's to camp.

He loved to work with wood. This was the last grandfather clock he built with the former owner of the property - they built many things together. It's a shame this is in storage.

His famous small Amish chair, a quilt rack, even the large ladder rack.

And intricate whimsy - can you imagine this was 'just for fun'.

This is my Mom and Dad on their 60th Wedding Anniversary. An avid gunsmith and sharpshooter, boat maker, woodsman and fisherman, story teller, provider, teacher, artist, craftsman. DAD A year ago we laid you to rest at your favorite place - the hunting cabin on the mountain. Today we remember.

  4. Hi Sharon, what a lovely post about your Dad. My Dad was a joiner too and made beautiful things with wood, though nothing like your grandfather clock. My Dad died 15 years ago just before Father's Day and 6 months before their 60th Wedding Anniversary. I still miss him everyday. Hugs xx

  11. Your Dad had a great 'eye' for proportion and detail and obviously trained his hands to recreate this. Thank you so much for sharing your Dad's beautiful work and your own memories of him with us.

  12. Thank you for sharing the photos of your father's work. The clock is magnificent. It's wonderful that you still have examples of his craftsmanship to pass on to future generations.
I grew up in New York City and never camped until I was a Girl Scout leader in my 50s. I'm not sure my meager skills could have withstood the hardcore camping depicted in your father's drawing.
I love when you share stories about your life and your family. They are always so interesting.
