Polar Bear Plunge Hop

I'd like to think the hop trio of hosts didn't plan this first Hop for 2022 knowing that most of the US (and parts of the world) would be in such a deep freeze and snow .  But I thank JOAN for starting us off with some hopping fun.

I looked for some 'image' inspiration and a number of Polar Plunge logos came up for Polar Clubs - yup, jumping in that icy water is a thing.

I found this cute little free bear pattern HERE and looked for days for my Sherpa with no success  BUT THEN ......

the news of the 'Saskatchewan Screamer' that then became Storm Izzy kept flashing all the colorful and cold  weather photos.

Someone had just given me the new copy of Simply Moderne - the cover caught my eye (love the whole quilt too) and the light bulb went off.

Using the pattern and colors of the weather maps I came up with my own 'Izzy'.  And one of those quarter circles is the Pantone Color of the Year - PERI, so I have that covered, too.

I even did some hand quilting - haven't done that in a while.  Using the magenta, peri, and white colored threads for some very rough circles.  It was a fun project that helped thru some pretty cold days and nights - waking up to minus 12 degrees is a shocker!

  1. I work with that kind of quilts just now. Super fun and interesting. Yours is beautiful, and extra nice with those hand stitces.

  4. I don't know where you live Sharon, but here in Nova Scotia it is winter, and the season stays with us for a few months. Thanks for introducing me to more modern quilting, I'm just beginning to get the sense of what it is

  13. I feel like I put the "voodoo" out on part of the country with this hop! LOL!! But it wasn't my goal, I promise. You may be freezing, but at least you still have your sense of humor about you. :-) Your take on Izzy is absolutely gorgeous and hand quilting. Wow! If I get my act together here, you might just see a polar bear from the link you shared. I have it printed, but it hasn't sewn itself together yet. LOL!! Thanks for playing along with us!

  20. cute project and where I grew up in DK there were "vikings" who'd drill a hole in the ice in the harbor and jump in, then quickly back out and drink snapps or whatever other drink to warm them up, it's supposedly good for you! I haven't tried it, I'd be too scared, but I HAVE been to a water park in Holland where you swim around this lazy river and at some point it was outside and right next to it was a small round pool like a spa size, but really deep and the water was super COLD, so we'd be brave step out of the hot water, jump into the cold and back out and quickly into the hot water again, it was like burning then! You have to JUMP into the cold, you can't just tippy toe or slide into it, then you'll never make it.....of course I was a kid then, don't know if I'd do it now!
