Of Cats & Dogs
I belong to a wonderful guild of some very talented and dedicated charity quilters. Our President - Kathy (plaid shirt) - had a Summer break challenge of making either a cat/kitten or dog/puppy block. These blocks would be then put into a quilt(s) for donating to our local animal shelter's annual auction. That's Sandy and Ginny in the background.
The St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Middleburgh, NY, offers this lovely large room with use of kitchen for not only our monthly meetings, but to schedule a Saturday 'sit-n-sew' or special program. This is Emily and Edna at work.
We are very lucky to have four men in our quild and two are very proficient long armers, too. This is Ron who power sewed 'flip' corners like a mad-man.
Diane and I tag-teamed making a number of 9-patches. You won't see me - I'm behind the camera!
Ta-Da --- the dog quilt in progress. Dollar Store flannel backed plastic tableclothes make for a great portable design wall. There is a couple of borders to go on this one.
And the cat quilt. We actually got this one into 'almost rows' before we had to pick up. The nice thing with the portable tableclothes - we could just roll them up and they could be carried home for a final finish. Photos were taken of the layouts just in case someone ran astray.
Two of our guild long armers will quilt them, I think we have volunteer binders, too. These will be ready in time for that auction and I hope to have 'finished' photos for you.
It was a lovely day with some friends on our coldest day of the winter.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
What a wonderful combined sewing project, and tablecloths with that fleecy back that the blocks stick to, so easy to take home, or bring back again.
ReplyDeleteTwo fantastic quilts. I think they're such great auction items too. Love when everyone can work together to create something for the greater good. It looks like the poor coon had to find another home. LOL
