In Like a Dragon
As one of my quilt guild members stated - March has swept in like a Dragon. She is so right as a Lion cannot match the roar and chaos the Frost Dragon has brought upon us. We had a few teaser days in February that made us hopeful, but let's not forget here in the NorEast - it is still Winter.
I'm using the time to play with a few more Puss in the Corner blocks with my 1.5" scraps. I do one or two of these; then.....
I will do one or two thread lengths on the new Bag Lady - Millecent. The polka dot dress has given me ideas for her mini. And hard to see, but she has a kitty in her pocket. She's also a crazy quilter - hmm, so stitching in the border?
I have the binding on this baby. This was one of my Let's Book It projects from a couple of years ago. It sat in that large tote hidden because it needed that last border. I had my long armer do a tight meander because of the long skinny bias strip piecing - oh, I love this quilt.
Well, one or two threads are going into this binding during the weekend with the other mix of projects. It will get done, Millecent will be happily on the go, and those blocks should get finished.
Just to show what it took to get the last binding on - while rotating a cat along with the quilt. Luckily neither furkid was around when I did the other.
This Saturday our quilt guild is having a sit and sew. The main object is to get our member blocks of cats and dogs (yes, there is one racoon) into two quilt tops - one of the dogs and one of the cats. These will be quilted by members and binding finished off in time to donate to the annual raffle/auction for the local Animal Shelter.
Members can use the time to work on their Charity quilt(s), or other project, or use the nice long tables for basting a project. It is to be bitter cold, but some social time along with sewing time is going to be good.

I agree with your ice dragon vs lion for March. We dropped 50+ degrees Wednesday night and had the strongest winds I can remember in WNY. Yesterday we had surprise whiteouts at work but 6 miles away at home there was nothing. We are clearly still in winter but Morher Nature needs to make up her mind!!
ReplyDeleteI have quilted several quilts with a cat so kindly holding them down for me. Luckily it was more often the 6 pounder who has been gone some time now.
Love your idea for the shelter raffle quilts. Cant wait to see ehere the lone 'coon ends up.
I'm off to take a hairpin lace today. I was to teach tatting at a fiber fest but no students in my class so they are compensating me with a class of my choice.
I love the bag lady with the kitty. Your own kitty definitely likes your quilts. I am looking forward to seeing this one when it is all finished.
ReplyDeleteThat racoon block is so cute! We got snow again, but, still not measurable, so, 2 full months with no measurable snow, and starting on the 3rd. Record setting, but, not good. Weird weather everywhere.
ReplyDeleteLol the shelter donation quilt idea. Seems like you are getting a late winter...thank goodness you have sewing to keep you busy.
ReplyDeleteWe felt the dragon's presence around our house too. The kitty/dog blocks will make wonderful auction quilts.
ReplyDeleteThose cat and dog blocks are sure cute. Great idea for the auction. Our March came in like a lamb...a wet lamb, but no complaints.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the Dragon instead of a lion. Those will be such nice gifts for the shelter.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your furkids - they make for cozy stitching, I bet! Stay warm and have fun!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Bag Ladies blocks! I think Moe has claimed that quilt for his own. Great idea for raising money for the shelter.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a little dragon weather here. The winter has been unusually mild and we're paying for it. The bugs and viruses that are going around are particularly nasty this year. The guild quilts look like they'll be adorable and I love the little racoon.
ReplyDeleteThankfully it has been looking a bit like spring here. Stay warm Sharon and thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteWe also have had some nasty weather , today it snowed and blew all day long but I guess it is March . Lots of lovely projects happening in your house and the sew day sounded interesting too .
ReplyDeleteCongrats on moving all your projects along and getting close to some finishes. Hopefully you are seeing a gradual warm up. We had some nasty storms last night. It seems spring got a jump on things here.
