Deep In Thought

I had a day that had me deep in thought as I am sure a lot of you did too.  I had to stay busy, but nothing that needed that back part of my mind.  So I worked on some baby bibs for one of our quilt guild's charity project due next month.  Just some simple sewing to use up some scraps .  The smaller bibs are from the tutorial found HERE and the large ones from the tutorial found HERE.

And then prepped the strattas for the next batch of bear foot prints.  These need too much concentration to work on right now, but they are ready for when I am ready to play with them.

To share my play with those brown and that great block.  Two sides are sashed so when they are ready to be put together, just the top and one side will have to have that border sashing added.

And didn't want to waste those cut-offs - paired with some fussy cuts from this piece thats been in the one scrap drawer for a very long time.

I have been trying to add a little quip of 'Thankful' for this month with my sign out.  Today is difficult.  I am thankful for my children and grandchildren, but I have had the fear of their future on my mind all day.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

Sharon, down here in New Zealand, the election news and then the results have taken over the TV news, I worry for so many friends I have in US, for the workers in other countries who export, for us here with trade exchanges, and remind myself that each day will happen, the sun will rise, and quilting will continue. Share your worries, they will not loom so largely, and as I look at your photos above, remind myself that to make and to give is a blessing, not only for the babies or adults, but for us as we cut, sew and quilt. Fond greetings.

Yesterday was very difficult and I tried to lose myself in sewing also, but tears, distraction and worry had me just wandering the house.

Sewing has been a good distraction as we get ready to hold family close and hunker down. We will get through this.

Thanks for the bib links. I have a brand new (premie) great nephew that will need a bib when he gets out of the NICU.

It was a difficult day, and there are difficult days ahead, but I agree with a quote I read from Barbara Bush yesterday that said something like this (not remembering the exact words): It matters less what happens in the White House than what happens in your house. We are still the same people, and we will carry on. Glad you found a way to distract yourself, and your blocks are looking good. I was busy most of the day too. The sun has come up two days in a row.

The bear paws do look like they would need all of your attention. The bibs are so cute and your browns look great.

Nancy in New Zealand shared my very thoughts. As a 79 years old Grandma, I am truly concerned for the first time ever. What do we do? We live our lives the best we can and stay true to who we are and true to what we believe in. Quilting, sewing, creativity ... giving to others of our talent and love. I love what you do and the sharing part of your world.

Sharon - Hopefully things will get better for our children and their children!! Just remember that we essentially are the authors of our own lives and for the most part, whoever is the President will not affect us unless we let it affect us!! Just keep on doing what you are doing - loving and giving and quilting and breathing!! I am grateful I live in a country where we can vote and we have so many freedoms!! Life IS good!!

This election cycle kept me depressed and angry in varying measures. The results have left me numb. My husband and I are now taking care of our 3 month old grandson five days a week while our daughter-in-law and son are at work. I can't imagine the impact this will have on his life and the future of our country. A coarseness has been seeping into popular culture in our country over the past 30 years or more. It's hard to believe that even the presidency of our country is now infected by it. While the baby slept today, I headed up to my sewing room and played with my fabric to keep me sane.

It has definitely been a week for surprises and the uneasiness that comes with them. Even Drama Teen was a bit overwhelmed this week. You found some fun projects to play with as a distraction. I love those brown and neutral blocks. Those are going to be some fun quilts.
