Are you purging - fabric that is? As a scrap quilter, this is really how I work most of my projects. BUT, I have a particular area of scraps that I want to get under control.
Remember this photo? Yup, this really needs to be tackled before it grows out of hand. And if you have scraps - you know they multiply over night.
Those string blocks on phone paper
My little dog quilt is being worked out of these baskets.
The Postage Stamp quilt in progress
The four doll quilts for the Mrs Claus Project
And lots of 6" blocks - I love taking a day or two just make blocks. You can use any search engine - ei: 6" quilt blocks - and sites pop up like crazy. There a lot of block libraries on-line as well as other resources. Currently I am working thru this one - Delaware Quilts BOMs.
How am I doing? Well two of three baskets are getting down and the baggies and loose strings are used up. That green basket has been sorted and piled into workable projects so I can just pull that section and go.
Are you taking The Purge Challenge? Take a hop over to Sitched in Color to see how others are tackling their scraps, orphans, and unloved fabrics.

Sharon
OMG Sharon... you amaze me with all the projects you get up to! :)
ReplyDeleteNo................:)
ReplyDeleteSomething that needs doing - after we're moved and settled that is! Your progress will inspire us - keep showing all those blocks and ideas.
ReplyDeleteYou really are using up those scraps!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm always purging and I am seeing a little improvement except the scrap piles keep growing, time for another string or log cabin I think.
ReplyDeleteYou are sew busy and sew productive you are positively inspiring ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteYou really are busy and doing a great job with your purging. Love those string blocks!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a scrappy quilt project to use up those little guys! Then you can start all over making new scraps! Oh yeah! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to make coloured fabric baskets with my scraps...to use up what I have and store future scraps, sorted by colour. Does that count? So far I've only got one each in pinks, browns and greens. Eventually I'll have one of each colour. I'm using the pattern in Sunday Morning Quilts. Hey...that should also count for making a project from a book, right?
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's impressive, Sharon!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero Sharon!!! I constantly fight the battle to keep the scraps under control. Usually I manage to win, but my crumbs are about to take over my world unless I begin a project with them soon :)
ReplyDeleteWow! You've made a lot of progress! Congrats on getting all those scraps into blocks ready for a few projects.
ReplyDeletegreat job! love the dog quilt and the doll quilts are so fun too. I am not brave enough to try a postage stamp yet!
ReplyDeleteYay you!! I love how you take scraps and make something gorgeous out of them every time!
ReplyDeleteYou are getting there and knowing you they will be gone before I know it. But then again those scrap fairies will arrive and bring you a whole new load to deal with.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quickie purge is to mail my scraps to quilter friends and then sit back and watch the magic happen.
ReplyDeleteConstanta-Purge here in LyndaLand due to real estate constraints. I'm sewing a 50 by 100 inch scrappy for my daughter's self and canine companion (85 lbs of sweetness but still 85 POUNDS !~! Holy baby cheeses !~!)
