Meandering
I am still pondering my scorched project - yeah, I will try to salvedge it but not until I am in the right frame of mind. So I did some meandering quilting to finish off three quilts. This is actually one of my SIL's projects - tutorial for the Sophie Car Seat Quilt found at Moda Bake Shop. She is making another and will do bindings/ties on both when the other is finished.
The other two quilts I'll show once we get some better weather for outside photos. Our weather has been cold, rainy, and severe storms. We even had an F-3 tornado touch down about 20 miles away - info found HERE. I was frantic to reach my son as it is his neighborhood - luckily it died down once it got into his neck of the woods.
I hate thunderstorms (and the metal in my body - really affects me) so I dumped that never ending scrap basket to meander thru.
I have 6 of these old phone books (every family member household passed them on to me) with nice thin paper for string blocks and there were lots of strings in that basket.
And I meandered thru those scraps some more - gosh, hate to pass up on all those free block tutorials offered with RSC14. Lots of 6.5" unfinished blocks - scrap goodness - keeping my mind from the storms.
While meandering thru that basket, I found my zip baggy holding scraps for my Round Robing project. So I thought I would get that final step done and add the left overs to the pile. The last round had to have some 4-patch(es) and I went with just a plain border with the corners as the 4-patch. Those red strips hanging are my binding. This will wait until June or July for quilting.
I have another top sandwiched that needs quilting, so I will ponder on whether to meander or strightline quilt it OR if the weather is better, get a little meander outside - cabin fever is setting in again.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
Looks like you have enjoyed your meandering....:) Everything looks wonderful. I hate storms as well. I've spent to much time in the storm cellar growing up. So glad your son is safe.
ReplyDeleteSeems like you had some very productive meandering going on.
ReplyDeleteglad your son is safe. scary weather is no fun. I love what you have done with your round robin. looks great. All of your scrap sewing was productive and nice blocks have resulted. don't you just love a good sewing day?
ReplyDeleteLots of wonderful projects here! I especially love the round robin quilt...it is so pretty! And the car seat quilt is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat blessed scrap basket of yours really holds some great stuff. Nice idea for using up old phone books; I'll keep that one in mind.
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of pretty quilts and blocks. It is alway rewarding to use your scraps.
ReplyDeleteYou may have meander, but it still looks like you got somewhere. Round Robing looks great and so do your sampler blocks. Hope you see some sunshine today.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the storm, but look at all you got done! Great looking collection of blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour meandering always leads somewhere cool. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you made it through the storm O.K., I wish I could send you some good weather, you're due. Thanks for the link to RSC14, I went over and checked it out, lots of good stuff over there.
ReplyDeletelooks like the storm resulted in a lot of great projects! Glad you son was safe.
ReplyDeletehope you enjoy a meander outside soon.
Enjoy your meandering Sharon and sorry to hear about your scorched project.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a relaxing day with all that meandering.
ReplyDeleteMeandering and making blocks is a great way to take your mind off the storms . Rainy and miserable here too .
ReplyDeleteI'd rather not have a tornado spur me on to dig through my scraps, but it looks like it really got you going on some beautiful projects. Sophie's Car Seat is very pretty! Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI'm wanting to make a string quilt this summer...thanks for the phone book trick!!
ReplyDeleteI love to meander, but don't put my machines on during storms... we had lightning strike a street utility pole outside our home once and it came in through the power lines and did a lot of damage. So glad I was home though. All your projects are great! I love making string blocks~ mindless sewing. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good way to stay calm - and do something useful at the same time! Glad to hear that your son is ok. Tornadoes are scary things!
ReplyDeleteBy now all the storms should have passed. Glad you son is okay. Your productivity during meandering is awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts and blocks. Love string blocks. You know how to meander : )
ReplyDeleteHope your weather improves.
Hey Sharon, do you know that Round 2 of the Relaxing Robin has started at sewyouquilt2 if you have any of those orphan blocks left?
ReplyDeleteStill reading my way through February to October -- I've just finished May!
