Fun Stuff to Survive the Heat

I know it is the first of August, but these quilts were finished in July.  It was a brutally hot and humid month for many.  For me to survive the heat (and the Covid lock down), I have mixed some fun and whimsy with my serious stitching.  Chicken Gumbo not only gave me 'cackles', but let me play with my much loved homespuns. 

 
They aren't really a fabric I recommend for 'hot' work due to their weight, but I have A/C so it didn't matter.  They have such a down home, comfort feeling - and we can use that in these times.

This was Bella's much beloved quilt while in progress, but look who showed up to make a claim while I was trying to take pictures!!  He had fun diving back and forth behind the quilt, rolling around the bottom, and even pulling it right down.

There was much discussion over our quilting buddies and I think this really explains it all.

This is another one of Lorna's @ SewFreshQuilts patterns - Ostrich Stretch.  These just cracked me up with each 'bird' that got stitched up.  It needs a fun, colorful border and then to quilt it up.

So if the heat is getting to you or the troubles of 'now' - try  a little fun or bright color to give you a smile (and keep the sewing mojo going).

Quilting Buddies

Quilters who have cats will relate to this.  Mine get attached to certain quilts and you just can't get them to stay away or off.  Bella really tested me while I was trying to finish off the last 'to-be-quilted' pieces on my monthly list.  Apparently homespuns are a fancy - or maybe it's the reds.

And my daughter's family just got a new kitty.  He has taken his job as quilt cat quite seriously already.  She had the same problem as kitty claimed this quilt thru all it's processes.

Christmas in July Blg Hop

I would like to thank CAROL for hosting yet again another fun and inspirational Blogger's Hop for us to enjoy.  This one was greatly looked forward to  - it has been so ghastly hot and humid that to think a little Christmas can certainly help.

THEN

My early blogging years introduced me to so many quilters world wide as I joined several swap groups.  I miss these folks, but postage got so terribly espensive that it ended them.  One of my favorites was the Secret Santa Sack Swap, they really made my Christmas special. 

The Miniatures Group did theme and seasonal Swaps.  I adore miniatures and have some wonderful pieces from around the world. 

NOW

I don't do a lot of mysteries, but this one came along just when I signed up for this Hop.  Hosted by MODA - Fat Quarter Shop with a weekly block reveal.  All the blocks are there and the last block with setting doesn't come out until this Thursday, but I wanted mine done for the Hop.

The last block is the center and I went with just a simple 9-patch.  Not sure if they are setting a border, but I wanted just a little more and it made it come out to a 50" square throw size.  Will be fun tossed across the couch.

I don't like to work with 'heavy sesonal' prints, so chose this bright polka dot, accented with the starry print, and the background is a white-on-white mistletoe print.  The star print will be used for the binding (made).  These are all pieces that have been 'gifted' to me over the years, and I'm glad they have found their place in a quilt.

Since I am a scrap quilter, yardage is a premium.  I knew these three pieces were going to be 'squeekers' compaired to the yardage chart.  And yes, they were!!  This is all that is left.

GIVE AWAY

A layer cake of a 'gilded' mix of Holiday prints.  There are two of each print and at least 42, but there might be more (I can't count).  Every time I counted I got a different number, so I threw a few more on the stack.  I will pull the winner next Tuesday, August 4th - be sure I can contact you.

OMG - July 2020 Link Up

Link Up

My goal for July was to finally quilt the Moda 'Patchwork Sampler' - a Quilt Along in 2017.  This was done in a Patrick Lose fabric line - Katherine Anne and Kona Snow background.

Backed with this Windham gray floral - a lot of grays in the prints.  I must like this as I had 3 pieces in the extra wide tote.

And I was worried I had made enough binding as I have none of this line left and would have trouble finding more.  Well, I didn't need to worry.
