Show & Tell Challenge - Part Two
I got the 10 Grandpa's Stars blocks finished and started making rows - a lot of pins to try and get all those seams to match up.
And a lot seams pressed open to reduce bulk. I used a lot of Best Press getting this baby to lay nicely - I like my backs as neat as my fronts.
It is now ready for borders - a 2.5" inner border and a 6.5" outer border should round this one out nicely. This will be the biggest part of Jo's Challenge - I hate to add borders. Plus, this has so much going on that I want to keep the borders calm to properly frame this - I just hope I have something on the shelf.
Please visit and see what others have linked up for the challenge.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
How do you get all those ironed seams to stay in place? No matter how nicely I make the back lie, when I go to quilt. I find so many that have flipped when I added the batting. Yours looks great. Good luck finding the perfect boarders to tie it all together.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks fabulous so far Sharon. Well done !
ReplyDeleteIt would look great with the same brown colored borders as the wall its hanging on...
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of work in that quilt from the look of it, but well worth it I'd say.
ReplyDeleteI love this Sharon, there's so much movement. That's a big border, I'd be tempted to just do a small dark one as a frame.
ReplyDeleteWhat concentration to make sure all those sashing strips ended up exactly where they should! My backs never lie that flat even after multiple pressings and really leaning on the iron to add extra weight.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing Grandpa proud!! I love the scrappiness of it all.
ReplyDeleteThat really looks wonderful, Sharon. I know that I've said it before, but I am so with you on sewing borders onto a quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Sharon. Thanks for the open seam pressing tips, And Best Press. I've found a couple solid borders calm scrappy quilts, too. Looking forward to seeing this one all finished.
ReplyDeleteI like that top. Too bad you can't just make another row of blocks, and skip the borders.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great, Sharon.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And I agree about the brown border - that dark wall behind it is really setting off the colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!! I love it. Those are a lot of seams!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your scrappy stars. It turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteIt really looks great and I'm like you, I like my backs nice and neat too.
