Lanterns in Parson Grey

I enjoyed Jess' Lantern-A-Long - very different, very quick, and very fun.  It was, also, the first time I worked with a fabric line  by Parson Grey.  Although I found the Jelly Roll to be pinked too deep and strips closer to 2" instead of 2'5", I worked around those problem.  But as quilters, we do come across that pattern or fabric that makes us become 'creative'.

I had to do a little 'seam' adjusting and had to go with a square quilt rather than a rectangle, because I didn't have the Kona Sand amount I needed for that.  Just a 4" x 5.5" Kona was left.  I have enough Jelly Roll strips left to use for the binding.  Finished size is 62.5" square.

Once I have found the right backing, I will be quilting this on my home machine.

Thank you Jess for a lovely quilt along.

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

  1. Your lanterns look terrific. I won't get mine done in time for the link party but hopefully next week. It was a fun design to work on. Joanne

  2. I like the way you arranged your lanterns, something I had to work on for a while. I also like the muted tones. I'm hoping to get mine done by Thursday, if not earlier. I agree that it was fun to make. I'll have to go modern more often.

  3. Love the lanterns. How maybe QALs are you doing now?

  4. I like the pattern, it's another of those "can't miss" patterns. I considered doing the lantern-along but I have way too much on my plate right now.

I don't like the pinked edges on some of the jelly rolls - it probably prevents fraying but I'm never sure I'm getting a true measurement.

  5. Wow, those are really different, I love the colors you picked. Sorry to hear you ran into more bad precuts, I hate to think what that would do to a beginner quilter.

  6. Very nice lantern quilt and always good to hear about a product. I will certainly check the width on any Parson Grey precuts I purchase. In fact that is a good idea for any precut.

  8. Sharon, it's absolutely stunning! They all fit together so well and I love seeing another "floating" version! Well done! :) Thanks for LALing!

  11. Very pretty! And good to know the shortage on those strips. Too bad some manufacturers don't sell accurate precuts.
