Orange You Glad

Oranges were once considered the ‘fruit of the gods’ and were actually the Golden Apple that was sought by Hercules. The taste and aroma of an orange differs from season, county, state, country, soil and place it grew on the tree. Orange oil has been used as a cosmetic, wood cleaner, and degreaser. The oldest known variety of orange is the Navel. Only 20 % of the orange crop is sold as ‘whole fruit’ - the rest is used for juice, extracts, and preserves. And children thru the centuries have use the orange peel wedge to make a ‘funny smile’.

WINNER OF THE ORANGE QUILT KIT

I thank all of you who commented and so many orange lovers! And no one said anything about my newest quilt having orange.

MIMI is the winner of the draw (no blog). I will send her a notice for information. Congratulations MIMI and thank you all - there could be more.

WHY DID THE ORANGE STOP ROLLING DOWN THE HILL?

BECAUSE IT RAN OUT OF JUICE!

Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

  3. Sharon you are so sweet, always giving lovely things away! Congrats to Mimi.
I don't eat oranges often but occasionally I crave one and have to go buy a few. Sometimes it's hard to find a nice one up here where they don't grow.
Very little blog time this week! :(

  4. My father was born in 1913. He used to tell us that when he was a little boy, it was a special treat to get an orange in your Christmas stocking. It's amazing to think how easily available this wonderful fruit is to us now.
Thanks for the info. You're always supplying wonderful bits that I was not aware of.

  9. I like oranges but have to be careful. Stephen and I both are allergic to the citrus. It causes our tongue to do crazy things. Worse actually is when they use it in sauces such as A-1. Yummy but bad stuff for us!
