I have two new students on Wednesday mornings. While learning how to use their machines, I have them making blocks. Might as well be working toward something rather than just stitching mindless. One is working out of my 2.5" square barrel making 9-patches and the other is using up the 3.5" squares in 4-patches - baby quilts in progress.
Our program at yesterday's guild meeting was the owner of Yarn Designs Unlimited. Many of us didn't know we had such a prestigous company right in our backyard. Lots of lovely samples of yarns and fabrics with explaination of their dying processes. She offered to work with anyone to special dye fabrics for a project or for backings as well as contribute to any of our charity work.
I, also, won the door prize (must wear your name tag at meetings) and here are my goodies from the bag. The clips I'll give to Mom as we just had a conversation over these while she was struggling to pin a binding to stitch down - she never heard of them which we thought funny as many of the gals have used days to do bindings and they use the clip (she just didn't notice I guess). The needle threader and spool of thread can be used in the classroom. BUT those socks are mine!!!
We have had a tough time here with many recent losses of quilting and family friends and it has taken a deep toll on my mother - hence my absences with the blog and blog reading. I hope to catch up to you all thru the rest of the week.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
I would keep those socks too :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the goodies, I have some steel spring clothes pegs I use, needle threaders are such a bonus, and socks, definitely a keeper for yourself, and to find words, sometimes " Just thinking of you right now" will be enough to let them know you care.
ReplyDeleteThose socks are fun! Great that you are teaching the next generation to sew.
ReplyDeleteGive your mom a big hug!! These times have been terrible for a lot of people. I do try to remain optimistic, I know things are getting better. I’m glad I have quilting. I love your prize, good little items and neat socks. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the losses that are weighing on your Mom. How fortunate that she is not isolated in a nursing home, but has family close to help her deal with the sorrow. And kudos to you for teaching some newbies the tricks of the trade.

Congrats on winning the door prize, Sharon! SEW sweet of you to share the wealth with Mom and your students.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your fun win! Hugs to you and mom, losing friends is not fun. It is certainly a trying couple of years.
ReplyDeleteI understand the losses. I've had several of my own recently. I love the Featherweight socks. I have a pair, too.
