Stitching With A Friend
I pulled this cute little red basin over-flowing with browns. I dumped most, but someone thought this was a good place to take a nap while snoopervising work. How he squeezed himself in there, I don't know. AND how he never fell of the corner of the table, lucky!
See, some of that dump - left that large piece in the basin which made for Moe's nice bed. A real odd mix of a few darks, mediums, and lights. I need to use up as much of this as possible so I can then fit the left overs in a shoe box tote.
I cut miles of 2.5" strips in all different lengths per the scrap/piece and I am making a JR Race style quilt that will have a plain border and then a piano key border. The basin looks full still because I didn't fold a thing because they will be recut and strip pieced for the piano key.
The large piece will go on the shelfing system. That all needs organizing and arranging as I have gone thru roughly 20 yrds of fabric with quilt tops, backs, and gifted on in all this clearing out.
Why the clear out? Well, for some changes here at VroomansQuilts. My Mom at the age of 90, has decided to retire from her career of fiber arts and moving into Senior Living. There is to be a 'Quilter's Sale' July 4th-8th here at Quilt Lane of her 40+yrs. of quilting. Supplies, notions, lace and ribbon, cutting matts and rotaries, templates and rulers, thread, machines, and fabric galore. Then there will be a household items sale in September.
So my down sizing is due to the event if I have to make a sudden move. I have no ownership or vested rights, so it is at the decision of the family. This all comes on top of a booked vending schedule and a lot of Quilter's Hall of Fame events. Just breath deep and keep focused. As my Great Grandmother would tell me "just one more mountain to climb, so put on your boots".
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
Glad you had some warning of the change. I hope the family considers your needs as they decide what to do with your home. Best wishes that this settles out well for you. A78mandel at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteWow, 90 and still quilting, I hope your mom will adjust to the senior home well. That leaves a bit of a pickle for you, my prayers are with you and that all will turn out ok. Hugs, lj
ReplyDeleteBig changes I see. Hoping it all goes smoothly for everyone involved. I'll be sending you my best throughout it all!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little jealous of your quilting "company", as I lost my fur baby last month. Just got word today that a friend of a friend has 3 litters of yellow kitties. I'm hoping to have a couple of new stitching critics by the end of the week! LOL!!
good for you - enjoy your new fur babies. kittens are the best - nuts, but still the best. My last two thought my design wall was their own personal climbing wall - so fun to watch...
DeleteHoping the family considers you favorably...so sorry for uncertain changes. Good luck with it all and also the sales

ReplyDeleteGlad your Mom made her own decision, though the change will be hard at times. And now, you are having to wait and see how things go with other decisions. I am praying that it all will work out well and for the best. You sound like you have a full and busy few months ahead. Deep breath and charge on.
ReplyDeleteChanges we do not think of years ago, love the place Moe found, they seem to be so happy curled up in the smallest of basins or boxes.Hope that your Mum's move will not mean you have to move as well. Keeping you close.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the decision wasn't easy for your mom and I'm hoping that you won't have to pack up and move either. Huge hugs coming your way my friend.
ReplyDeleteIt's stressful when the future is uncertain and outside your ability to control. Consider it and opportuniy rather than a challenge. Your quilting activities will keep you busy and hopefully distract you from uncertainly. And what quilter couldn't benefit from the need to get more organized. Wish I was closer to attend the sale os your mother's treasures. Keep your chin up and take one day at a time.

That is one big mountain, Sharon. I hope you are able to stay there, but I do like your grandmother's attitude. Good luck.
ReplyDelete:(...hope you find a happy place.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your mother was able to make the decision for herself and is able to prepare for it in advance. It's always harder to have the decision made for you in a situation when you can't mentally or physically prepare for it. I hope this new chapter in your life will mean positive changes whether it is staying on at the farm or finding another place for you and the kitties to call home.
ReplyDeleteSounds stressful and lots of work. My mantra these days is... "Fighting change builds up emotional scar tissue". I try to remind myself to "go with the flow" but it's really challenging for me. Hoping you find yourself surrounded with love, beauty and lots of fabric!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's hard on your mother to move at this age. Hope things can stay the same for you. Change can be difficult, but, it can also be good.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a pretty big job with a lot of change. Good luck with all the clean up.
ReplyDeleteSharon, I had seen this post earlier and didn't know what to say and now that I've come back to the post, I feel I really must say something. If anyone has anxiety over change more than I, I have no idea who that person is. I've learned that the dread is often the worst part of the entire process. I hope that whatever change you may have to make may be the best for you as well as for your mom. You are a very positive person and I'm sure you will make the transition well. I pray that your mother is delighted with her decision.
