It's A Mystery

Quiltville's Quips & Snips

It's a mystery to me how people can spend Thanksgiving Day, Eve, and Black Friday fighting crowds for a 'deal'.  I much prefer to spend my time right to home with the first clue to Bonnie Hunter's  mystery.  I'm sure there are plenty of you out there doing the same.

I am going along with Bonnie's color plan - sort of.  I didn't pull these - these are my FQ shoe totes that are stuffed and need cleaning out.  So it only made sense to go with the flow.  My only change is that I will be using a constant 'neutral', because that is what I have.

I plan on making the lap size version so only making half the amount of units.  Once the final reveal comes out and I might need more - easy peasy.  So, that many sub units take no time at all to whip up on a quite day after the Holiday.

After finishing up another small project on the table, I spent Saturday making these cute 9-patches.  Here we can get into a deep discussion on what 'aqua' is, but I don't really worry as variety is what is going to make this interesting.  And they have all gone happily into a project tote waiting for the nest clue.

Please visit to see how everyone is progressing

  1. Fabulous! I did the same thing. We've been hanging out having quiet days at home. I made 22 9-patches (I'm working on a lap quilt too!) My aqua's tend more toward the teal/greenish side of things. Will be watching for your progress!

  2. Your blocks are beautiful! I spent Friday doing the very same thing...it's my first mystery quilt. I'm one of the lucky ones in Oregon who gets to take Bonnie Hunter classes the first week of December. 😊

  3. Hmmm, sounds like the 26th December down here, huge sales, and queues at the doors way before they open. Lovely patch blocks and colours. ( p.s. I stay home too)""

  5. Lovely! I'm also going to do half quantities. I couldn't start immediately due to other commitments, but I have started to cut strips. I'm hoping to spend Monday sewing them together.

  6. I never go shopping after Thanksgiving either but I did spend a bunch of time in my studio straightening up and moving some things around. I work better when things aren't a mess. I always enjoy watching the mystery quilts come together.

  7. Your tubs looks full and will work so well. Love your 9 patch assortment. I ended up using my fabrics for the baby quilt which is ready to quilt now. I may just watch for now and be envious of others progress.

  8. Oooooh, pretty fabrics for your mystery. We broke our rule about no shopping after Thanksgiving on Friday, but our trip to Jo-Ann was very quick. I wanted that jumbo rick rack. In and out without looking left or right.

  10. I'm watching the mystery from the sidelines this year. En Provence is a flimsy, but not quilted and there are way too many WIPS lying around including the split nine patch leader and ender and multiple RSCs. But it will be fun to see what others are doing.

  14. I worked retail waaaaay too many years to ever want to go out shopping on Black Friday! Bonnie's mystery is a much better way to spend my time!
You've got a great bunch of aqua/turquoise/teal/blue-greens there! (The more variety, the merrier!)

  15. I'm not working on Bonnie's mystery, but I stayed at home on Black Friday too! No desire at all to battle the crowds at the mall...

  16. I stay far away from sales like that too! Not my idea of fun. You got heaps done on your mystery challenge. Very nice 9 patches.

  19. We didn't leave the house until Saturday. We avoid 'buying' on Thanksgiving or the day after. Not worth it. I did get lots of stitching done those 2 days.
