August Goals

I'm a little late with goals.  I needed time to rest from the weekend and then we had some really bad storms roll thru which made me power down a lot of items for safety.  The good thing about them is the much needed rain and it will drop our temps and humidity.

I am keeping my goals light as I will be using the month to prepare for a very booked next few months.  I even took my calendar apart so I could spread those months out for a better look.. I have more items to fill in as I go thru my paperwork and notes.  Really scarey when you can almost see the end of the year - I thought it just started!

For my Let's Book It project I will be using this Shnibbles book.  And although I could use scraps, I have the need to play with some new fabric.  Well, actually this layer cake has been in that LC tote for a while.

This book is nice as it has the large and small version of each quilt pattern.  I am going for the small version and hopefully can at least get it to the flimsy stage.

RSC 15

This month's RSC15 color is INDIGO with the option to use black.  Since we've had 2 blues already, indigo would make my projects a little heavy on the blue side and I really don't like to make heavy black blocks - especially in charity quilts.  So I may go for deep purple instead.  But these may be a back burner project depending on my time.

  Slow Sunday Stitching

This will come in handy as I have a lot of temporary hanging sleeves to add to some quilts as well as check my labels with the possibility of some being replaced with better ones.  There will be bindings to do, also.  I have some other booked handquilting demos and will using my star quilt and the melon blocks again.  Those might be done by the end of the year.

I had a special request to make a Princess quilt for a classmate of one of my grandsons.  This is actually sandwiched and ready for quilting.  You can read the story HERE.  This is a MUST finish.

I have been booked for an April bag making class.  Yes, I make bags.  But I have to have a prototype done up by Sept 1st so they can show it to the guild for sign ups.  This is a specialty designed quilter's project bag to their requests - one of a kind.  It's all drawn up and sections tested. It should be fun, but I HAVE to get that bag made!

And since my Juki is in the shop for at least 2 weeks, I drug my old back up Brother out and it DID NOT WORK.  I couldn't get it to go - I had trouble with it in the past - and it would cost more to fix (if at all) than it's worth.  So I bought this little cutey.  Plain, simple, a piecer with a sweet stitch and just a few extras on it.  For anything heavy or complicated, I can borrow my Mom's Bernina (which she hates and doesn't use) or use my SIL's Singer.

May your August be as bright as a Sunflower,
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon

  1. I believe I bought that Shnibbles book when a Hancock Fabrics closed a couple years ago, I haven't used it yet though. I hope your Juki gets better soon!

I also hope your Juki gets better soon. Sewing machines not working is the stuff of nightmares!

  5. Oh dear... that sounds like a lot on your plate, and you need a reliable sewing machine! So glad to hear you are doing more hand quilting demos :)

  6. Those are good goals...lots of utilitarian stuff, which is sometimes the most fun when one spends all one's time piecing. A non-working sewing machine is so exasperating!

  7. The year has simply flown by and I really hadn't noticed until this week. The princess quilt is very pretty, perfect for a young girl. I must set my goals for August as I have lots of catching up to do. Good luck with your goals and I hope your machine is better soon.

  11. I have that book and I think I actually made something from it, LOL. Cute little machine, I hope it's nothing serious with the Juki, two weeks is pretty long.

  12. It seems to me that each time you sit down to contemplate, you come up with a few hundred new projects. No wonder the year seems to be running by so fast.

  14. I have the Schnibbles book. I made the pattern 'X Rated' before the book came out (it's in the book, too). It was supposed to be a 31" square quilt, but, I made it twin/full size. It was a fun pattern, and went pretty quickly. Hope the Juki is fixed soon.
