I'm a little late posting up to Scraptastic Tuesday. We have been on a 24hr. alert for tornados - yes, tornados in New York State! See Here - and so close to my daughter/family. We had power out (blown transformers) and heavy sideways rain.
I've had this lovely package of charms (Starburst by Benartex designed specifically for Canada) that were gifted to me by a sweet Canadian blogger - thank you Lesley. But so long ago that I felt guilty when I found it in my cleaning and reorganization. The Kona Black strip roll is probably just as old - I had tucked them together with some thought. A plan formed.
Now this print I am trying to find information on and date it. You may have to enlarge the picture, but I can't make out the selvedge myself. A name and code in small blue crypted dots. And it is only 35" WOF which gives me an approximate age. A little over a yard of it and scraps gifted back when I started quilting - but time to use it.
When power was out, I cut - when power was on, I stitched.
Since there was two of each colorway/print charm - let them shine in a box block. One black and one white. All squared up and ready to put into a quilt top - if the power behaves tomorrow.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
I hope the power stays on - I can't wait to see that finished top!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I think, though, that every day is a scrap-tastic day around your place!
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea on how to use the charms. Power outage? Treadle machine comes in handy :-).
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great Sharon. They will make an effective quilt. I hope the power stays on for you.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to say thank you, again, for my layer cake, it arrived in the post this week, and I can't wait to get sewing with it :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea adding one to a black background then the same in a light background. Hope the power behaves tomorrow...xox
ReplyDeleteThese charms are beautiful. It looks like you found the right fabrics to make the charms pop.
ReplyDeleteHope your power stays on! Great use of your time and good idea to use contrast backgrounds. Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
ReplyDeleteI think I recognize that fabric....or something very close to it. Are we talking 80s fabric or a bit earlier? I do believe this quilt will be very effective and striking with the contrast. Hope the power stays on for you.
ReplyDeleteTornado's in NY scary. Great looking blocks lead to great looking quilts. Looking forward to the great finish.
ReplyDeleteSuch crazy weather!!! Hang in there...these will look fun together!
ReplyDeleteI love that little print fabric! 35"? It must be old!
ReplyDeleteStay safe in that crazy weather.
I love the charm pack prints...cute blocks! Stay safe from those tornadoes!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm glad you are safe. That storm was too close. Strange weather. Love the prints.
ReplyDeleteAs I go through my sewing area, tidying, organizing, I find scraps, blocks, fat quarters, patterns and papers tucked away in years past.
Stay safe, dear.
Nothing like sewing to take your mind off the weather!! Looks good. Can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteTornados in New York! I hope you and family are safe! I love that charm pack. It looks like you are on your way to making a great quilt out those three elements, scrap fabric, charm pack and a jelly roll!
ReplyDeleteHope you weathered all the storms with everything intact. Those kind of storms are scary. I guess it's our turn this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your new blocks. Looking forward to seeing all those stitched together.
Hope your weather is better today. Nice blocks. That black on white print looks like a civil war print.
ReplyDeleteWow.....hate tornadoes. So glad you are safe.
