Feline Friday 6-6-14
My SIL rang me in the morning - thought maybe she left her reading glasses again. NOPE, she wanted me to tip toe to my door with camera to capture a 'moment'. I've had skunk, snake, possum, racoon, and even a deer once on my porch - so didn't know what to expect. These two hardly ever get close, so this was a Kodak Moment.
I thought I would tackle that apple basket full of scrap and cut-offs muslin. Yes, that is a huge pile and I didn't even dump it all - just crammed in there. So some pressing and cutting for some useable sizes for a few leader/ender projects going. I need 3", 2.5", 2", and 1.5" for various things. Any long strips will get trimmed to size and left in the length and put on hangers - might need them down the line.
I took a break, yup they are still there! My Bella, you are getting pudgy!!
The 2" squares are going in the tote for the Lozenge blocks. I am half way there with these. The 3" squares are for a HST project - using up those scrap triangles in a box.
And the 2.5" squares are getting chained right thru the machine as I cut them. My barrel was full AGAIN, so another postage stamp quilt is in the works.
This is one of those distractions I was talking about - off and running with something when I should be working on something else. But I wanted to use up that cone of thread to start with a fresh one on my weekend project. I keep my empty cones and spools as a resource for inventory to order for the next year.
I got thru about a third of that basket, worked up three 20" postage stamp blocks, and have plenty of pre-cuts to work with for a while - so picked up and took another peek. Gosh, to have a cats life!! By the way, that notch out of my indoor/outdoor carpet - the deer that was on my porch decided this was good 'grazing'. A chase with the broom and she hasn't been back.
linking up with Feline Friday over at Sarah's.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
Wow! So glad to see the kids getting along on the porch. I wonder how many other times they hung out together and no one knew about it?! Great job tackling the apple bin - those are always the hard projects to get started but once you're in to them, time just flies by.
ReplyDeleteSeeing your fur-babies makes me home-sick - my two are the same colors! You are clever to retain your empty cones & spools to use as a gauge for future buying - I would never have thought of that, but then you also get more accomplished than I (especially THIS year).
ReplyDeleteI was going to make a postage stamp quilt with my scraps, and I still might, but then I came up with another way to lay them out. I'll just have to see what strikes my fancy when I have time to work on them! :0)
ReplyDeleteYour kitties are enjoying their leisurely time together :-). Great lot of sorting and stitching happening , good for you .
ReplyDeleteYes...it's a cat's life. Wouldn't it be nice to snooze all day?
ReplyDeleteI plan to start a postage stamp quilt soon. I caught my two next to each other on the bed one day and took a picture because I knew no one would believe it! If you ask them they will deny it!
ReplyDeleteI am avoiding my scrap piles right now. I know need to cut them in useable sizes, I admire you for tackling yours! I am working on Bonnie Hunter's Lozenge leader and ender project too. I am sure if the kitties were not getting along you would 'hear' about it!
ReplyDeleteOh my Scrapiness, you are making some dents in your stash? And I'm so glad to find someone else gets a kick out of finishing a thread cone!
ReplyDeleteNote to self: no indoor-outdoor carpet on the porch when we get back to WNY, lol! Isn't it wonderful when the critters finally decide to be friends?
ReplyDeleteA warm spot is all it takes. I love the contented looks they have.
ReplyDeleteTwo little cuties
ReplyDeleteThe two of them look very comfortable there.
ReplyDeleteThey're finally enjoying the weather. In that third picture it looks like they're actually touching. :)
ReplyDeleteAh yes.....a cat's life sounds pretty good most days.
ReplyDeletelove seeing your work Sharon and yes its good to be a cat at your house, lol.xx
ReplyDeleteMy cats have been spending the week on the front porch too!
ReplyDeleteIf they shed a fraction of what my dog does, out on the porch is a good place for them to hang out.
ReplyDeleteWhat content furry babies. I never tire seeing pictures of them.
ReplyDeleteLovely pile of neutral scraps and beautiful blocks!
Thank goodness of the rainbow challenge. Makes me address my scraps and is a source of many colorful, fun hot pads and quilts for family, friends and donation.
You got lots done while the kitties were just hanging out.
ReplyDeleteThey look so sweet laying back to back in the sun.
ReplyDeleteI like to use scraps, but you lose me when you cut squares as small as 1.5 inches. I love to see the things you make with the tiny pieces, especially since I don't use pieces that small.
Sweet! Life is always better when we just love each other, kick back and relax.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to make a postage stamp quilt. I think I would have to cheat though and get that fusible grid stuff so I could keep my lines and seams straight. I'm not the best piecer.
Oh my I can't believe a deer wold eat that! I'm still cutting scraps too - thought I was through but then today I was cleaning off a shelf and found another pile of scraps. :( blessings, marlene
