I am starting to feel like a quilter again! Now normally you would like a pretty, eye grabbing photo to lead with. BUT this is pretty to me. PT approved me using my machine as the leg motions are similar to the exercise movements I have to do thru the day. Yes, I can use the left when the right side starts to tire. Threads and fur - so pretty to me lately.(Or maybe quilter's shouldn't wear sweat pants?)
Yep, I got those Bonnie Hunter Celtic Soltice 'flight' blocks assembled. A few each day thru this week. I don't know when I will get to the other block assembly, but with all the units finished, they should work up quickly. I am thinking of doing a different border though. Not to worry, those units will be used in something else somewhere down the line.
I had hand pieced my 16-patch blocks for 'Goodnight Irene' sew along as part of my Slow Stitching Sunday. And they are ready. I had a real DUH moment in pressing these and my fight blocks. Struggling to stand like that wobbly flamingo at the ironing board left me only able to do 3-4 at a time and then rest. DUH - lower the dang ironing board!! Then I could roll my wheel chair right up and press away - who'd thunk it!!
And I decided to just use one of the '5-minute' blocks for a table mat. The rest was an easy dis-mantle and the can be used (and the extra fabrics) in something else. Yeah, I even did a yo-yo with button for the center. It only took me three tries this time to get a decent yo-yo - I do not like to make yo-yo's. So my 'Something Old' is finished.
And I received a lovely package in the mail - my 'Sewing with Friends' little swap group. This time is was a pincushion swap. A cute berry pie pincushion (in a real little pie tin), a sweet hanky, little fabric tray, little buttons, and felt tiny clothespin clips.
This is the pincushion set that I sent to my partner. I use this Tutorial from SewMaMaSew. I made the pincushion smaller than hers and used doll plastic pellets instead of the dried rice.
I have to share my Thank You to a dear sweet bloggy friend who sent me these lovely flowers - thank you KatieQ. And these flowers led to all the cat fur trouble. Every where I placed these a certain kitty just wanted to dig in the pot. So they are on my mantel now - thinking high up would thwart the shinanigans.
Yes, Miss Thing - caught in the act!! The photo of her reaching up to the corner of the mantel for the flowers was really blurry - these are her trying to scoot away. And that nasty face I got! WELL!!!!!!
CLOSING THOUGHT
Just want to share this with you all. I know some of you are on the NO BUY pledge - but support your local shop even if to buy some thread.
Sewingly Yours,
Sharon
Yay you!! The sight of threads on your sweats is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteMy lap looks like that often. So glad to hear that you are finding ways to accommodate your limitations while continuing to work on your projects.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see that you are improving and as inventive as ever in finding ways to keep on quilting !
ReplyDeleteYour Goodnight Irene blocks look great! I'm glad you were able to figure out how to sit and press them! :0)
ReplyDeleteI will say this again, you are one amazing woman!!
ReplyDeleteI like the mug rug you made from a block.
Your kitty looks really upset with you for spoiling his fun.. ha!
Have a great day!
You have been busy! I especially love the table mat. And sooooo love the thread shot...sometimes I even end up pulling the threads that some how made it to work with me on my sweaters...LOL!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, we all know sewing is therapy but who knew it would work as PT. Did you use the new machine? I had to laugh when you said putting the flowers higher would stop them, higher seems to be just more fun.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are sewing again! I duck out for the holidays and come back to you STILL getting so much accomplished. I am really loving your scrappy Celtic Solstice. Aren't the kitties just so darn crafty?!? It is almost impossible keeping them away from something they really want...
ReplyDeleteTeresa :o)
great pictures and lovely work!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog, but my heart is with you as your mobility continues to improve. Because of scholiosis and degenerative disk disease I am very limited in the time I can spend doing anything that requires bending my neck or torso forward...and any repetitive motion with my body. SO...I decided to wear a timer around my neck and it goes off at 15 minutes and I quit and go to my chair. At first it was hard to deal with because I did not want to stop, but I quickly learned if I did not want nerve pain, headaches, and ongoing pain I had better do it. We sewers will do whatever we can to continue doing what has become our passion. I am in PT on an ongoing basis...sometimes once and at other times twice a week. Take care and do not do too much. Your quilting is absolutely beautiful. Love your 5 minute block and your other quilts under construction. genie
ReplyDeleteYou've been able to get a lot done. Hope you continue to improve quickly!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are able to do some quilting and it is fun to see your sweats covered in thread!!
ReplyDeleteSweat pants should be required wearing. . . .they hold pins alot better than jeans (denim is too hard to pin through!) LOL
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look wonderful; can't wait to see what your version of CS looks like when it is finished.
Don't you just love the attitude faces that our furry kids give us when they are doing something that they shouldn't be??!!
Be well.
So happy to see you are able to quilt again and I love the pants picture, my grands are always telling me I need to de-thread before I go out!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are able to get the threads back on your clothes! How else can people know we are quilters!! You sure have gotten a lot done. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteDelightful post. So glad you are improving. So much going on at your house.Enjoyed every picture. Don't overdo.
ReplyDeleteThose naughty kitties! I have the same problem here. Fur and thread? Looking mah-velous, my dear.
ReplyDeleteGosh, Sharon. I'm always amazed at all you accomplish. Good job on "Good-night, Irene." Those threads on your pants are what I call "Hilachas," (my blog name.) That's a beautiful block you used for your tabletopper. And, I agree that your partner did a terrific job on the pincushion she sent you. The one you sent her in return is a great idea.
ReplyDeletethose thread additions to your pants are ok. I wont tell. your tabletopper is very pretty. love your projects
ReplyDeleteI have a sweater that looks like your sweatpants - I don't think I'll ever get all the threads off of it! Looks like you're having a good time with your "therapy" - hooray for your PT person!! And cats are so good with their nasty face, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteLove all your pretties, especially your "something old" - whoop whoop for you!!
Your sweat pants look like mine! Glad to hear you are able to test out that pedal foot! Love each and every project!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all your progress, Sharon! Love that 5 minute table mat. What a great block.
ReplyDeleteOh yes so pretty! Glad to hear you are PT approved! Gorgeous projects as always.
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks, and I'm glad you are getting back to what you love. You know, of course, that you only made it more of a challenge, and more fun, too, by moving the flowers to the mantel? Haha! We do love our kitties!
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely sight to see, all those threads indicate sewing, quilting and such! Yay! So glad you are able to use the machine now.
ReplyDeleteCats are always very determined to get what they want instead of what we want. LOL. I also like when I am covered in fur and fibers cuz it means I have been having fun. I hope you continue to mend steadily :)
ReplyDeleteOh too funny! Aren't all our clothes supposed to look like that? Mine do! And Miss Thing will get those flowers one way or the other - all cats get their way :*) Love your CS blocks - looking great!
ReplyDeletebeautiful blocks Sharon and love the swap gifts both sent and received, and funny story with your cat and he looks so innocent, lol.xx
ReplyDeleteAre you implying that there are pants that don't look like that?
ReplyDeleteThe threads look great to me as well and I'm glad you are getting to use your new machine.
ReplyDeleteKitty got busted! :)
Soooo glad to see your linty sweats!! Congrats!! And it's good to see you are keeping busy, dear friend!!
ReplyDeleteI love the 'linty' sweats! As they say, you can tell a quilter by the *threads* she wears! It is beautiful! I had the same *duh* moment with the ironing board, Sharon -- how funny is that? The 5-minute block is really cools looking...how do you get the curve?! Glad to hear that you continue to improve! Happy hugs!! :)
ReplyDeleteAll you pictures are wonderful but the first one with your pants and threads is just the best! So happy to see you are well on your way back!
ReplyDeleteYep - being thread coated is a wonderful thing! My cats also find flowers or green plants to be irrestible. The thought of you at your ironing board scares me... So glad you improvised! I still remember the day we returned my wheelchair and how happy I was to no longer need it! Progress is so encouraging.
ReplyDeleteYour kitty and my daughter have a lot in common. They are both redheads and make the sourest faces when they are annoyed.
ReplyDeleteThe pincushion you sent your swap partner is wonderful.
Yeah for you for getting the a-ok to do some machine sewing. Like you, I typically have threads on my clothes and once when I picked the kids up from school, the teacher pulled a bit out of my hair for me. LOL.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are starting to heal. Woohoo!
