HO HO HO BLOG HOP


I would like to first thank Mdm Sam for the inspiration of this hop and Carol for being our hostess for the event.  You can always click the button on the side bar to find the daily list of bloggers participating.  I share my day with these lovely ladies:

I knew exactly what I wanted to play with once I saw the introduction for this new Hop.  I love the Twister templates and own three different sizes.  And I bought a new toy/tool which just wanted to come out and play too.  So I chose my smallest Twister - yes, that's a 1.5" template.


If you have not worked with a twister template, you start with a block layout first.  With this little guy, I need to start with 2.5" squares.  You can see how that cutting and re-stitching really affects the size of your finished piece.


My finished mini Twister Christmas Tree.  Started with a 32" square piece and ended up with a 15.5" cute little wallhanging for the season.


Of course you have some heavy seams, so I chose to 'tie' rather than quilt this.  So I used various beads, buttons, and metalic threads to tie and decorate my little tree.  It's hard to see, but I also tied little white star buttons in the white background.



And like most quilters, I have other fiber arts I like to play with.  Cross stitching has been a long time love affair for me.


I love to capture structures that show such texture and design.  And who can't remember 'Over the River and Thru the Woods' ......


'To Grandmother's House we go' - Christmas time on the farm is like no other for me.  Animals in their abundant coats for the winter cold, sleigh rides and sleigh bells, a fire and roasting chestnuts, Christmas goodies baking and filling the house with wonderful smells. And family and friends filling the old house to the brim!

    Great projects! I love to cross stitch too! Its hard to pick just one type of holiday food! But I would have to say my grandmothers recipe for Date-Nut bread is on the top of the list.

    Oh I love your twisted tree! I have thought about making something like that, but never got around to doing it....one of these days! Maybe I should join one of Mdm Sams hops one of these days, and that would motivate me...sew much to do, sew little time!

    In Sweden we love the Gingerbread - to bake the small thin cookies and feel the atmosphere in the kitchen - that is christmas!

    THat looks great. I have not used the Twister tool, but is seems like great fun! The cross stitch pattern is amazing. I do stitchery, the one stitch I have never mastered is the cross stitch. I suck at that.... So I am in awe! Beautiful!
    My favourite food for Christmas is .... TURKEY! Well, that and chocolate. But that is my favourite food always, so it doesn't really count. Thank you for sharing!

    Your Twister tree is just perfect for the holiday. I have used the larger one but not the little one and I really like the look of it...very cute. Kudos to you on your cross stitching.     Very beautiful tree. I also like to cross-stitch and I loved the scenery. My favorite food would be all the Chrustmas cookies. We all bake cookies and then after dinner we sample all the various kinds and pick our favorite new cookie recipe.

    I have been wondering how the Twister tool worked and now I know! You do lovely cross stitch work. I used to but my weird eyes don't do close up work very well any longer. Maybe that is why I don't like to hand stitch binding!

    My favorite Christmas food is something we call "Mexican Tea Cakes" which are crushed pecan cookies rolled in confectioner's sugar. I can never eat just one!! Lovely giveaway - thanks for the opportunity to win.

    Christmas Fudge!!!

    oh, my. There is a reason it's only made at Christmas in my family. We would all weigh a ton if it was available year round. Rich, soft, melt in your mouth and soooo smooth. My favorite flavor is the 1/2 chocolate (on the bottom) 1/2 peanut butter. I don't even eat Reese's cups - they taste yucky after having had this fudge. mmmm... wonder if a batch in August to celebrate this hop is "legal"?

    Wow I love you mini twister Christmas tree. I didn't know you could get such a small template, I must get one. My favourite Christmas food mm difficult as there is so much to choose from. I love Brussel sprouts and in the Christmas season everyone seems to serve them(even if they don't like them) so I'm very happy.

    We love what we call 'duelly' at our house. It is layered peanut butter and chocolate fudge...yummo! Tummy rumbling as we speak. LOVE your quilt and I might give it a go....and maybe it's small enough it might get done by Christmas :)

    By holiday food, I'm hoping you mean Christmas, as that's the only holiday (ok, so there's Easter, Valentines Day & New Years Eve too) that we celebrate, no Thanksgiving here....so my favourite holiday food is or rather was, my Mums Christmas cake and pudding, but sadly she's gone now, so no more 'lucky stirs' of the mix as she made it either :(

    Your little tree is a charmer and using the decorative bits to "tie" it was smart. You mention wonderful holiday images in your post and make me think of all of the beautiful things of Christmas. Christmas cookies are a favorite food. It seems there are more homemade ones at that time of year.

    Wow Sharon....I don't even know what to say it's so amazing. I love it! I have a Twister ruler and have yet to use it. It's not this small one but just a bit bigger so now I'm going to have to get in there and give it a whirl. (Pun intended!) And the cross stitch stirs a whole pot of memories for me - I used to do that for hours in the evening when I had put the children to bed. Holiday food - we have a family favorite Orange Cake that I make every Christmas. My grown kids come in the door asking where it is. :) blessings, marlene

    I love your christmas tree and the stitchery is beautiful!
    I love all sorts of pickled herring and Janssons frestelse is so good and on every smorgasbord! Janssons frestelse is a gratin made of poatoe, onion, anchovy and cream. It's delicious!

    Favorite food is the cookies. The real problem is choosing the cookie. My mom always made 7 or more varieties. I'd say it's the Santa Snacks. They are made up of all the best ingredients.

    Your quilt is really gorgeous! I have a friend who loves the Twister Ruler! I have not used it as of yet but have been thinking about buying one.

    My favorite Christmas food is the fruitcakes that I bake from scratch... and then again, when I think back to my mothers homemade dressing, my mouth waters... I miss her so much!

    Very very pretty. Love your project. Cross stitch is my other favorite thing although I haven't done much this year which is odd for me as I always have something on the go. I guess I have been having so much fun with my new sewing machines.
    Let's see my favorite Christmas food if a Rashberry cheesecake that my son makes. I have to talk hin into making it as it is so expensive to make but so good. Thanks for showing your wonderful piece and having a give away.

    I love eggnog...there I said it! No one else in my home likes it...I LOVE IT!! So at Christmas I make some to bring with me to to other peoples homes so I can enjoy it too.....But I also love the cookies and special dinner....as long as there is eggnog!

    Your twister is amazing! I didn't realize they shrink so much from start to finish. Love your cross stitch as well. I have a couple cross stitch projects of my own that need finishing.     Love the twister block. My favorite food has changed. As a child, it was the homemade bread, a teenager it was the desserts and now it is the dressings and the cranberry sauce.

    Love your Twister Tree. I have two of the twister templates, possibly a third but I can't remember now. I haven't used them yet. I guess this is another 'fear' of messing it up that I need to overcome.

    Oh gosh, how to choose just one favorite during the holidays? That's tough. I think for sweets it would have to be my Pecan Tassies I make each year during the holidays. I LOVE those because they are like tiny little pecan pies and the crust made with cream cheese is awesome. Each year I think I should make a pie using that crust recipe because it would have to be good.

    great twister project....
    For Christmas I have to make it danish style. pork roast with the pork rind that's crispy! red cabbage, potatoes and for dessert, almond rice pudding! it's a game, so there's slivered almonds in there chopped up but ONE whole almond and whoever gets the whole almond on their plate gets an "almond" present, for the kids it's often a game for the adults it's chocolate, but when I was a kid the grown ups would pass one of us the almond under the table so we'd get the prize, or they'd tease and put their tongue in their cheek and say they GOT it!!
    One year I won a "3D" 4 in a row game and beat my older cousins in it!

    I love the twister tree pattern and would love to make one--super cute. Lovely work. Also, you do amazing cross-stitch. I've done very little, but I know quality work when I see it.     Both your quilt and your cross stitch are delightful. It may seem strange to someone in the northern hemisphere but my favourite holiday food is pavlova. Of course it is often up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Christmas Day. I like to top my pavlova with strawberries, banana and passion fruit -yum.

I make beignets every Christmas morning as a tribute to my little grandson who was born in New Orleans, and I love those powdered-sugar-donuts, hot from the oil.     A comment on my favorite holiday food.... well, to be honest, I have not been able to have this since I was a child as my Mom would stuff our turkey with these little sausages instead of stuffing and then bake the bird that way. Those sausages were so good, I could never get enough of them - and when I have picked up some myself to try to re-create this meal, these sausages where to strong in flavour and - well, they are not right. So that is my favorite holiday food from my past.

    Now it would be - tarts!!

    Love the calm look to your site - it was a pleasure - and thanks for being part of the fun. My favourite Christmas food is Lipton's Onion Soup Mix and Sour cream dip with Ruffle potatoe chips. It was a special treat on Christmas Eve when I was little and it still brings back that special feeling for me.

    You must be patient and creative to use cross stitch with your quilting projects. My favorite holiday treat is called pretzel salad. It is a pretzel crust with a layer of a cream cheese fluffy mixture and topped with fruit in jello. YUM!

    My favourite holiday food the the date candy that my Mom, Grandma, and I used to make every Christmas. I didn't make any last year though because my son decided he doesn't want any more and I'd gain a million pounds if I ate it all myself :(

    I love biscuits of any variety but my favourites are the aniseed ones that a friend used to make and that I can sort of replicate.
    Christmas and biscuits just go together so this is my favourite food, followed closely by my Grandma's Russian toffee that just never tastes as good as hers did.

    Oh what an awesome little tree!! I love it! I don't have any of the cool rulers or tools but I enjoy seeing them used by others.

    My favorite Holiday food would have to be my Mom's Sausage Stars. She called them simply, "Won Tons" and my whole family makes themselves sick on them. I was blessed that she left the recipe to me, so I am the designated "Won Ton Maker" for our family now.
