Whooping Friday

I had to do an indoor photo as we are still stormy and I refuse to stand in lightening and pouring rain to take a picture.  Yes, I got the quilt done and actually added three (yes, three) borders.  This quilt is made entirely of left overs.  Left over JR strips, left over charms,left over strips from prior projects, left over backing cut offs, left over borders.  

The JR was this floral line and I have the one floral in the rust, brown and blue extra wide for border/backs.  I had just enough of the brown left over from another quilt to use as the border - so that is cleaned up.

This is what I have left of the JR strips - all light.  I have probably only put a light binding on a few minis so this will be the first big quilt with a light binding.  The idea is to use this stuff up.  I'll bag it and pin to the quilt top as it goes onto the 'to-be-quilted' pile.

No parades, no fireworks (I hope to catch them on the TV), no gatherings.  We will have rain and severe storms that keep us in any way.  I plan to play with my scraps with the new Bonnie Hunter Scrap Challenge and have a hand project on stand-by should we lose power.  Stay safe, healthy, and cherish each and every day.

OMG - July 2020

Half way thru the year and the OMG has been a real motivation to move a project along.  Because my pile of 'to be quilted' has grown so, July is going to be a quilting marathon month.

I chose this quilt to be my OMG goal.  This was a quilt along with Moda back in 2017 - 'The Patchwork Sampler'.  I used a FQ bundle of 'Katherine Ann' by Patrick Loose and Kona Snow.

There are a lot of grays in this bundle as well as rose prints, so I plan to use this for the backing.  Luckily I had the binding made and pinned to the top so everything is ready to go.  I hope there is enough binding there as I don't have any of this line left - but it's scrappy so I should be able to find something that fits if needed.

Scrappy Wednesday

With a new month, a reoganiztion starts to plan the schedule of projects to work on.  I want July to be a month of getting as many tops quilted, but I found another pile of made blocks and decided today was a good day to finish these up into a flimsy.  They are rather 'bland' so need a little dressing up.

I have a few strips left from the Jelly Roll quilt made last month, so I am going to use them with this project and clear them out as well.

 The heavy rains have totally beat down the flowers - this is my only bed this year.  We are to have 3-4 more days of these storms and I hope I have flowers left.

The first part of the year has been dreadful and draining - this is how I want the rest of the year!!

Monday Making

We've had (and will continue to have thru the week) some powerful thunder/lightening/downpour storms, so I hope we keep power thru most of our week.  I will be joining Beth for a little Monday Making - see LINK UP HERE.

I'm working on the last few star blocks for the Lincoln Quilt.  All the sixteen patches are made.  The stars usually go quickly, but....

I am using the flip-corner technique' for the geese units so I can make these bonus units to be used in another project.

With the homespun chickens and thie quilt, I have used up all my greens, most of the blues, and half the reds.  There was very little yellow, black, and blown and they are almost gone. 

I had helpers along the way - Moe in a Tote!  He made me jump and yell as I did't know he was in there - reached in to get the last few scraps out and touched this "furry thing" that suddenly moved!  Stinker!!!

Bella helped to hold down the piles of finished blocks.  They both stick to me like glue when there is a bad storm - they are as nervous as I am - and I'm suppose to be the brave one.

I have packed the larger pieces away in the big tote (and all that pink homespun yet to use).  All the small and scrappy stuff was put in this smaller tote.  I have two projects I want to work out of the 'Hobo Quilts' book and want to use up the scraps first.  Yes, there is still a lot of milage in all this fabric, but I think once the Lincoln Quilt is done, I will have my fill working with homespun  for now.

I snapped a photo of these before the heavy rains just in case they get beat down.  

And this is the first time these have flowered in years.
